blccwgl55 - 2015-08-26 3:50 PM Thank you again for the replies! Now for you that took Accutane or know someone who did, do you/they have to continue to take some kind of medicine? Obviously you can't not continue to take care of your skin but I was just wondering if it's pretty permanent along with good diet/skin regimen or are other acne medicines, etc needed? I'm not sure if I'll be eligible yet for accutane but if anything else doesn't work and I am I'm curious to know what "life" is like after?? ETA: Those that use coconut oil, how do you use it?

I use coconut oil, it's the only thing that works! I just use it as a moisturizer. after every time I wash my face I just dip two fingers very lightly in the jar so I only have a tiny amount on. Then slap it on my face :

I have not had to use anything else since treating with Accutane. I just clean my makeup off every night.

I have had lasting effects on my lips though. While on Accutane they were extremely dry and chapped all the time, would sunburn easily. I still have to take extra care of them. Keeping them moisturized and protected in the sun.

I was on accutane 3 different times all while in high school, so my last time on it was over 10 years ago, people absolutely do not believe me when I tell them how horrible my face used to be.  I have very very minimal scarring, if really any and my skin is as clear as can be now, even while pregnant!  Granted, yes, occasionally I will get a SINGLE white head, but hello I am female with hormones, especially while pregnant.  I always wondered what would happen once I got off birth control wondering if that was what was helping my face but I noticed no difference once I got off birth control compared to while I was on it.

Yes, while I was on it I did have horribly dry skin, and I couldn't blow my nose ( I would swab it out with q-tips), but I am oh so thankful for parents who faught very hard to get my skin cleared up so I wouldn't fight it for the rest of my life!  I personally swear by accutane, I know others can have negative things to say, but nothing touched my acne, nothing, until accutane!

Edited to add:  They only thing I have changed to my 'skin care' is moisterizer and a less invasive face wash, not a scrub.....  I wash my face every morning in the shower, and if I get really dirty I just rinse my face at night... But other then that I do absolutley nothing different and haven't taken a single thing for my skin since I got off the accutane 10 years ago.....

I do coconut oil pulling, thats where you swish it in your mouth for 15 minutes. I never put it on my face. I have no idea how this possibly works to dry the oil up but it does somehow from the inside out. Its supposed to remove toxins from your body.

I have no experience with acne but it sounds like your skin is dehydrated, not dry, which can and usually still is oily at the same time. That means your skin is lacking water whereas dry skin is lacking oil. Here's an article on that: http://www.youbeauty.com/beauty/dry-vs-dehydrated-skin/ I've had the opposite as you which is extremely dry, dehydrated skin. One of the things I've learned is that ingredients make a huge difference in skincare and so does packaging. Skincare that has fragrance or other irritants can really break down your skin. Also, skincare that comes in jar packaging becomes almost useless in a couple of days due to the ingredients being exposed to air and light. I've switched to Paula's Choice skincare and my skin has never been better. They have a formula for every skin type and skin concern. Here's the website: http://www.paulaschoice.com/ Also, I've heard that retinol is really good for acne and they have several products containing retinol: http://www.paulaschoice.com/shop/skin-care-categories/retinol-treat... Good luck!

What kind of acne are you having? Do they come to a head?

I had cystic acne after having my first child bad. Dermatologist put me on B Yaz which is a low dose BC. It went away. I will get one every now and then when I get really stressed. The last one we had to do an injection on

I took my daughter, she is 11, to the derm back in May. She was having chin acne that was coming to a head. She recommends a cleanser with salsylic acid in it and prescribed Epiduo. It a cream to help fight black head and white heads. So far it is much better but she said a lot of my daughters is hormone related and we can't make it go away but we can minimize the outbreaks and severity of them. Daughter has sensitive skin. Makes it harder to fight the acne as some things are to harsh on her skin

It's a mixture! Some come to a head, some are annoying red bumps that are deeper and take a few days to come to a head, I get an occasional under the skin really deep one, and then tons of blackheads. It's very frustrating and I hope I can find something that works for me!!
