This is why God invented autopsies. |

Location: In the Hills of Texas | I'm still looking where it said Obama was attending the funeral. I hope Michelle and him don't get car sick on the long trip over to the Court for a drive by.
The White House announced Wednesday that President Obama will not attend Saturday’s funeral Mass for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia; instead, Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will pay their respects on Friday when Scalia's body will lie in repose at the court. (Vice President Joe Biden will attend the Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. ) This is a mistake. In 2005, I covered the funeral for Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist in Washington. Then-President George W. Bush not only attended, but he also delivered a eulogy, one of many tributes at the service. Given their political differences, it probably wouldn’t be appropriate for Obama to speak at Scalia’s funeral, and the family might not want him to participate in the ceremony. But he should attend. Even if he doesn’t spend Saturday golfing — a scenario raised by a reporter at a White House press briefing — Obama's absence amounts to a slight to the court’s longest-serving member, a justice the president himself described as “one of the most consequential judges and thinkers to serve on the Supreme Court.” It’s also is a dumb political move. By attending the funeral Obama would have underscored the importance of nonpartisanship when it comes to the court. That could only have helped him make the case that the Republican-controlled Senate has a duty to give fair consideration to the person he nominates to succeed Scalia. Unless the Scalia family let it be known that it didn’t wish Obama to attend — which seems inconceivable — the president’s decision makes no sense. |

He managed to attend the funeral of the former grand cyclops of the KKK, William Byrd, but neither of them have the time to attend the funeral of one of the most widely respected and influential members in the history of the U.S. Supreme Court. I'm ashamed of this bastard. Class act. Maybe the President would have attended the funeral if Scalia would have attended the last few State of the Union addresses. What goes around comes around. The Obamas are paying their respects this evening and the Bidens will be attending. Finney, that sounds about right. Basically, Obama was holding a grudge.....so to hell with doing the classy thing. To hell with the idea of rising above the fray. To hell with showing the world that we Americans set aside our petty political differences, and show the utmost respect to a very widely admired and respected jurist. Shame on me for expecting this out of Obama.
In one of his State of the Union addresses, Obama belittled the Supreme Court Judges in a most embarrassing fashion. I know it happened, just can't remember the circumstances. So why would Scalia want to return for further humiliation. |

Justice Antonin Scalia’s absence is no surprise. It was the 19th State of the Union in a row that he’s skipped since he considers the speech a “childish spectacle.”
And here is more about it..

Interesting article, NTO. Thanks.
So, it just show's Finney was desperately searching to rationalize Obozo's cowardice and total lack of a sense of decorum and class.
She failed miserably in her attempts. |

Location: Florida | Have any of you read about where he was when he died? It was a private hunting lodge owned by a billioniare who had a big case before the court last year. The court ruled with the billlionaire. As some of you know I have tried to believe in our court system, but no more. If a Supreme Court Justice can be bought by the 1% we are in real trouble. I still believe the ranchers who want to take over our federal preserves are wrong, but that is nothing compared to a conservative supreme court justice taking free vacations from people who have cases before the court. |

You suggested unequivocally that he was "bought". Do you have any evidence to back this up, or are you grasping at straws like Finney?
Also, was this case actually heard before the court? If you want to talk about people being "bought by the 1%", I'm game.....starting with Hillary and the Clinton La Cosa Nostra crime family.

There was no case in the court.
And it's a resort, not just a hunting ranch. It wouldn't be the first time the wealthy invited other wealthy and influential friends and acquaintences to one of their homes. Heck maybe they both love quail hunting and that was it. There are many celebrities and the mindboggling wealthy who spend a lot of time out here hunting and relaxing. |

And the President and First Lady ARE attending Friday and the VP and Dr. Biden are attending on Sat.
Instead of blaming one person for every problem in this country we should look at those who purposely spread mis information.
karen Obama's refusal to attend the funeral service of this man is conspicuous and tacky. It's thumbing his nose at the citizens of this nation. Let me ask you this, Karen; do you think he would attend the funeral of Justice Ruth Bader-Ginsburg? For once I wish Obama could set aside his political agenda and do the classy thing. I guess I'm expecting too much.
Come on Doc. The Justice was 79 years old, over weight, smoked and had just been told his health was not good enough for shoulder surg.
The USA does not send the President and VP to the same event. That is why the President is going on Friday and the VP on Saturday. That is not refusal to go.
Although I did not agree with a Lot of Scalia's ideas I did respect the man. If people would pull the plank from their eye they could be as Scalia and Ginsburg were. Friends who often disagree but could rationally discuss issues.

We don't assume people die from things under these circumstances.
We have absolutely no evidence he died from anything. I know just a little more about this than you.
The fact that he and Justice Bader-Ginsburg were such great friends and mutual admirers is pretty admirable. If Bader-Ginsburg died tomorrow, he would attend her funeral, you can bank on it. Obama is incapable of rising above the fray......because he's a trashy ideologue whose only goal is to create chaos and divisions. Look around. |

Oh for crying out loud. Do you have no idea how the SC takes a case? It takes three Justices to agree to hear a case. This case did not receive three votes. You are implying that by Justice Scalia being invited to a party with 35 other people given by a businessman some how influenced the votes of the other eight justices REALLY!!!! As to the freebees as you say. It has been stated in many articles that the ranch owner gives these party's two or three times a year and does not CHARGE ANYONE has not in 22 years of doing this. Sounds right to me I have never charged my guests for a party that I have given but that's me maybe you do who knows. And if you would look up the case in question it WAS Not a vary important case and frankly should not have even reached the level of the SC probably why the court refused to hear it IMO. |
