If I don't need to buy it I don't, if I dont need to enter I don't. I just feel like I can do more than just my 40 hr week at my day job. Im in my 20s, and I would love to have my mortgage paid off within the next 10 years. I want to make the most of "now". I didn't start this thread because I cannot or am struggling to pay my bills, I am looking for creative ways to get ahead :)
I have been thinking of partnering on some horses with the hubby. He can start them roping and I can start them in the barrel pen. We have a toddler though, and I dont always have time to ride my good horse, much less a youngster. I guess if I want to bad enough I will make the time!
THIS is so smart!!! I wish I would have had this brain when I was in my 20's! Save, save, save, pay off your mortgage, invest in your 401 (k). Every extra penny goes towards my mortgage and that is my goal in life - to pay off my place. I also contribute as much as I possible can to my 401(k) - compound interst is an amazing thing lol.
I didn't say what I did to offend any of you, my place will be paid off before I'm 50, I own my truck and trailer, have no cc bills and only a car payment. I drive a 2004 f350 and a steel 2000 Titan trailer......I'm surprised that we are able to save $ with just a few changes. I'm a long ways from the welfare line and I'm sure you all are too, just opening your eyes to some things that may make other parts of your life more enjoyable. Sometimes we are a little blind to what reality is in our actions versus what truly is. If you bank online run one of their reports that shows you where your money goes-it's very surprising to see that Walmart was getting a large portion of our money each month-some on necessities and some on totally useless crap. I wish you well-in my 20's I couldn't afford to pay attention :) |

No offfense taken. You made some great points. I often look through my online bank debits as well to see where I may need to trim a little fat. I wish more time was spent in high school learning how to properly manage finaces. I could have gotten a jump start on this years ago lol. |

I started selling natural pet foods that led into selling fancy pet beds that led into starting a little mobile tack/clothing business. lol Β Now my day job (w-o-r-k) is getting in the way of my 'little' mobile/web business and I'm getting closer and closer to making the big decision... Β
I'm in a similar position as you! I do art in addition to my regular full-time job, but my full-time job has been getting in the way because it's hard to dedicate enough time to my art to make it a full-fledged business. I've been working really hard over the last year to make it happen, but I'm stuck because the art doesn't make enough money to justify quitting my job, but I don't have enough time to dedicate to my art because of my job. It sucks!
Good luck to you, I hope you can make it happen!! |

Location: Georgia | I clean and restore saddles for extra cash. I normally always have an outside saddle in and I normally charge $125-150 a pop. When I dont have a saddle in I look at buying worn saddles, then clean them up and make them look good as new and reselling them for a higher value. I would love to get into leather work if I had more time. |

That's right!! I remember your art and wanted to buy something from you!! I hope you can break free too!! My biggest thing is insurance and retirement - right now I'm taking my paycheck and dumping as much as I can torwards my mortgage. I hear you ya about working hard. I do an 8 hr day and then come home and field calls and emails and spend a few hours in the evening packaging orders and/or working on the website. Every day. And dog collars. And paperwork, which I HATE lol. Good luck to you!! And I'm going to have you do a painting for me some day!! |

Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | Longneck - 2016-04-26 7:10 AM I work for a vendor that attends a lot of the major stock shows and rodeos. If I didn't have a full time job with home responsibilities I would do a lot more shows, so I'm not making thousands a year. It's not year long work, so I take what money I do make and use it as more of a "treat" for myself.... Upgrades on a saddle, a nice pair of boots I've been eyeing, etc. Things that I would have not budgeted for otherwise. I also try to be diligent in cleaning out my closet and taking stuff to consignment shops. Also be sure and use sites like Ebates for online shopping.... It's probably not going to pay any serious bills, but it's free money in a sense.
What do you do for them? You can PM if you would like. |

Location: Oklahoma | Husband and I both work full time jobs 45+ hours a week. We just started taking in some commison horses for extra money on the side. That has helped greatly getting the bigger chunks of extra change to help pay of bills were working on trying to become debt free we have a little bit to go but its nice when you can but a good extra bit towards student loans and CC's. Husbnad also does some leather work and braids bronc reins for extra entry money. |

Location: Way up North | I do custom tack and leather work. Like others have said it is really time consuming and the full time job puts the brakes on how much you can take on. It is also really expensive to get into with tools, equipment, leathers, hides, etc so I haven't really taken anything from the business yet, it all gets reinvested but I think of it as a long term life restructuring.

Location: Montana | I buy and sell things, but I come by it naturally (my dad makes his living that way). I'll buy a saddle, clean it up, sell it, maybe I'll do the same with a car, pretty much anything. I do online surveys for points so I can afford some luxuries, such as I'll do surveys to earn points towards a Starbucks giftcard (Starbucks is a weakness of mine), but I'll also earn points for cash or for other giftcards like Walmart or Amazon for gifts or items I need. It takes up my evenings a little bit, but I'm usually on the computer browsing BHW any ways. I also shovel a neighbor lady's sidewalk in the winter for a few extra bucks. There are lots of little ways to make a few extra bucks. |
