| I teach high school and also one period is my rodeo/old west class. I keep my branding iron by my door. Nobody is getting in my room. We had in service trainings on school shooting awareness after the sandy hook. Law enforcement provided it. They asked all of us if an intruder came into our room would any of us have a plan and what would we do. I told them I had an iron branding iron by my door and if anyone broke in I would be there and it would be the last classroom they went into. Other teachers were appalled that I could hurt someone if needed. Oh yes I could and if they would let me pack a gun I would sign up. |

Well... you knew I was not a nice polite person before you decided to take me on in this thread... You already knew I threw out 'political correctness" 3 years ago... Now you act surprised??
People that scream racism make me laugh... I used to be a little 3 foot tall white kid in an all black school on the edge of Washington DC in the mid 1960s...
Short of lynching, there is nothing you can teach me about racism that I have not lived through...

Maybe so...but this is beyond unacceptable to circumvent the filters to use swear words and racial slurs repeatedly. Someone needs a time out.
On the topic at hand... It is terrorism. It is political in the name of a twisted sort of religious fervor. The leaders of this terror group make use of those unstable folks to accomplish their goals. Was this individual strongly religious or political? No idea...but he was malleable and willing to act? Yes...and That's all they needed. |

Screw the watch list....it just needs to be called a DEPORT list and they need to send them out of here.

| I used to bartend for a corporate promotion. Due to the sensitivity of the product this corporation sold, the event needed security. The nicest men and women I've ever met where retired FBI agents and retired officers. They were hired by this corporation and carried guns. They were well trained, especially at keeping their cool at all times.
During some of our conversations, it had been expressed to me over and over how much they enjoyed work after retirement from their agencies. I don't understand why we can't utilize these men and women to protect areas that people would prefer to be a gun free zone. Especially in the cases of schools, large events etc.

Everything I've heard says the guy that did it is a muslim extremist w/ possible ISIS involvement. There is no question why he did it. Not only do they hate America, they also hate and kill gays on the regular in some muslim countries. An American gay nightclub is a jackpot for them. |

We received ALICE training by our local emergency management. It was a last minute 4 hour PD that our school district paid for. The emergency management guy said really it should be a 3 day PD (so it made it sound as if our district was looking for filler training and only wanted to pay for 4 hours). In ALICE training you are trained how to take down an active shooter and kids get involved also. They are supposed to take books and prepare to throw them, and kids are trained in active holds on how to pull a gun out of someones hand along with teachers. We were shown different ways to add secretive door blocks, how to stand and where ect.
After the 4 hour training session the guy in charge of our school emergency plan told us we will not be doing any of the above and we are to sit and wait. Nothing like receiving two contradictory statements on something so serious.
As for me, I am still going to figure out a secondary way to bolt my doors shut and come up with a way to get out the back window safely with the kids. No way am I not coming up with a game plan and no way are we just sitting there if we are ever put into the situation.
It was very eye opening as the trainer of the emergency management went through the statistics of all major shooting events in the US and they support a higher rate of survival if you fight back vs. sit and hide.
Although, I am not sure parents would be too keen on their kids receiving this type of training. Again....sitting ducks...not a fan of this.

Now I know why he targeted this nightclub, when all this was unfolding and it was all over the news yesterday morning nobody knew why it happen, but as the day worn on and they found out he was doing this for ISIS it all started coming out that this was a terrorist act.  |
