Location: California | I think she's gotten way too use to being a pasture puff! Robbie doesn't seem to like her either. He rode one circle and wanted off.
Hopefully Willow will cooperate next time! |

Using a measuring tape he's around 15h. I'm 5' even for reference :)
Pretty sure I'm going to loose my horse to my niece and nephew. Lol. Buy them a pony and they steal my horse. That's about right. Lol
Yep, that horse was made for kids. Can you breed your mare back to get a horse for you now? |

I can share but they can't take him over completely. Lol
I have seriously considered breeding his mom back to Howelling Corona or breeding to Perks Firewater Flit. I'll just have to see how things go. I'd REALLY like to get her back on barrels and get her proven before breeding her again. HOPEFULLY next year I can do that. Once I'm ok it'll just be a test as to whether she will stay sound for a performance career. None of her issues are hereditary luckily, all caused by trusting the wrong farriers and malnutrition early in life before I bought her. I'm praying I will be good by Spring and that I can get back to running them both! Maybe by then the kids will be ablessed to come off the line and be able to walk/trot barrels on Ace! |

Location: California | Thank you! I will definitely keep everyone updated! I probably won't have any new updates until after the 15th. Taking a vacation out of state here soon. Hopefully my plane isn't delayed on the return trip, I fly in on the 14th at 10:20am and have almost a 3 hour drive home and then my neurosurgeon appointment is at 9:30 am on the 15th. |

Location: California | Well, the neurosurgeon can't help me. I've been referred to a regular spine Dr that also has a chiropractic degree. The neurosurgeon said it looks like trauma to T4 actually cracked it and it's been long healed. So it looks more like a joint problem at T4 then a bone issue. Which means the only surgery possible is a pretty major surgery and chances are high that it wouldn't help my pain level at all. Not the news I wanted. It looks more like the plan will be about figuring out how to manage me more then fixing me. Hopefully the appointment on Friday gives me a better outlook then what I'm facing right now. |

Location: Arkansas | Bless your heart. My bf has been thru surgeries and procedures and injections and finally a spinal cord stimulator. Which then got infected and had to be removed about 2 months ago. Surprisingly he's been better since then--go figure. But his situation is more about managing the pain than things being fixable. I am so sorry you are going thru this, especially at such a young age. |

Thank you! I have been surprisingly optimistic up until hearing what the neurosurgeon had to say. The truly scary part is him saying he doesn't understand why I'm progressively getting worse. I'm praying the spine Dr has better news and a better outlook for me.
If i truly end up with only being able to "manage" the pain level and it turns out that it's not something that's fixable I highly doubt I will be able to return to barrel racing. Just warming a horse up puts me in agony at this stage. I will be facing some serious decisions if that is the case. Needless to say, today I have not been in the best mindset :( |

Location: California | My massage therapist gave me some hope yesterday. I told him what the neurosurgeon said and then mentioned how it just doesn't make sense. How screwed up my muscles are just doesn't make sense. So his insight after yesterday's session and really focusing around T4 is that there is more muscle tone on my right side. Whi ch in turn means the muscles to the right of T4 and right under that shoulder blade are really constricted with years worth of adhesions, he saI'd that would be pulling that section of my spine to the right and causing unnecessary pressure and that MAY be the source of my pain. Of course the spine Dr may have more answers and we could be off base but I certainly think my massage therapist is on to something. He will be writing something up on what he has felt and his thoughts so I can take it with me tomorrow morning. I'm praying that joint is fine and it's mainly muscle issues that is causing me pain! This has been the biggest roller coaster ride of my life. I'm terrified but trying to remain hopeful for tomorrow morning. |

Location: California | This dr visit went a little better. My long term future is still uncertain but there is hope. I had acupuncture and injections into the main problem muscles in my back. If i have long term relief then that will tell us we are mainly battling muscle issues and the longterm prognosis is much better. If i only get short term relief then chances are I am battling arthritis from the compression fracture and the long term prognosis isn't as great. So it's pretty much a hurry up and wait deal. |

What is the timeframe that will determine "short" vs "long" relief? |

Location: California | I have another appointment in 4 weeks (December 16th I think it is). If my high level of pain has returned by then he discussed injecting the joint. He told me if the muscle injections are still working by December 1st then he wants me to start riding lightly to see if that has any effect on me. With what my massage therapist wrote up, he is hopeful that we are just battling years of muscle contracting and such and that with some injections and other maintenance that we can get it all worked out.
I'm still left with so many questions and lack of answers but it's a start and definitely a more hopeful outlook then the neurosurgeon gave me. I'm trying to remain positive. Not the easiest task. |
