I have to agree. The refugees scare the heck out of me. They do things that are absolutely horrible but it is accepted in their culture as the norm. A man from Israel that my husband works with said that if a woman goes into a store and has a tank top or shorts on they believe that it is ok for them to rape her. So what happens when they come over to our country and are around your daughter? They are still going to believe those things are ok because that is what they have been taught to believe.
Wow. This is the most blatantly racist thing I've read in a while.

I'm pretty sure you don't understand what that word means

California Ag already paid overtime for over 60 hours a week, and Ag wasn't the only industry exempted from the 40 hour work week law. Between this and the minimum wage hike, water issues, and other taxes and regulations that make it more difficult to compete with other states, much less other countries, the industry is facing some tough choices. I just recently learned that putting a flat bed on a pickup in CA makes it a commercial vehicle. How stupid is that? That's just one example of many of how out of touch those people are.

Ag as a whole in the US survives by innovation and efficiency, while at the same time being one of the more environmentally protective countries. Can we improve? Sure. And we're getting better every year. Many practices that improve sustainability and benefit the environment also provide economic incentives. But dumbass policies and regulations that cut the legs from beneath us will eventually make it impossible to survive. Several politicians (all Dems, incidentally) have been heard to say we don't need Ag here anyway because that's what 3rd world countries are for. Really? REALLY?

Three 4 Luck - 2016-10-12 12:15 PM  Are any of y'all familiar with some of the regulatory laws that have been passed in liberal California this year, specifically the ones that affect agriculture?  There is a real chance that production Ag will cease to exist there in the future in any meaningful form, with the way things are going.  They are sending a clear message that Ag isn't welcome in their backyard.  As goes California, so goes the country if we don't switch directions. The EPA has already been up our butts with WOTUS and other ridiculous things, and too many of our lawmakers aren't looking out for domestic producers in regard to trade deals.   Rural life as we know it can't exist without Ag. That includes the horse industry.
Can you explain some of these laws? I am not familiar with them. I do know California has a water usage issue but that is about all I know. Thinking ahead, there will be big changes in agriculture in the future as a whole. Probably not a terrible thing. Change is not always a bad thing.
Dairymen must decrease the amount of methane produced by 40% by the year 2030. Oddly, the amount of methane in the atmosphere has not increased since the 1990s, it has a short life span once released. Rice patties are the biggest culprits for the production and release of methane but California has been doing everything it can to kill the dairy industry for a long time. Farms and ranches are now required to pay overtime to their employees. The seasonal employee will STARVE. During hay season here the farm hands may put in 70 hour work weeks but come winter time they are lucky to get in 20 hours. They are paid a straight time by the hour regardless of the hours they work. Basically, the over worked hours in the summer are balanced by the under worked hours in the winter. The farm hands save their summer time wages for the low times during the winter. Now they will not be able to do much saving at all. Salary is not an option either. I don't know if it is federal or state law but an employee has to make a minimum of $70K a year to be put on salary. Crews will be rotated every 8 hours. Some of the farm workers here do alfalfa in the day time and during potato season, plant and harvest potatoes at night. There will be no more of that. I have not talked to a single farm worker who was in support of the new overtime law. They knew and understood the ramifications of it and how it would effect their paycheck. The whole state has been asked to cut water usage by 23%. Now there is talk about the central valley regulating farm wells and cutting the amount even more of run off farmers are allotted for irrigation. They are already working on a minimum. So many fields have gone fallow. Orchards are drying up. In the mean time, the inner city and suburban areas are worried about their lawns.
It's federal and the limit is around $54,000 to be salary. My husbands employers bumped him up to $55,000 last year because of this law. The rest of the stuff I do not know anything about so thank you responding:)

I'm salary on $6,000 a year, so that can't be a federal law.

I was wrong, it is $47476. It is federal though. I'm not sure why you are getting paid salary for $6000. You should take that up with your employer. Maybe they are exempt for some reason. It doesn't go into effect until Dec 1st 2016. Maybe you will get a raise soon!

it kills me when people say he isnt fit to be president.  and he is so scary.
have you ever watched one of his speaches on the campaign trail?
for years i /we have all wanted a canidate not beholdin to the large donor.  We have a canidate funding the majority of his campaign.  (what canidate in recent history has done that?)  we have a canidate who understands the tax code, who understands foreign and domestic trade.  who understands we cant be financially insolvent any longer.  we have a canidate who will stop the influx of immigrants who are taxing our resources.

in the end all we can do is vote our conscious.  we have to live with that every day after.

It is federal law, but there are different amounts for different states and regions, and there are several "classifications" that can change it. It effected me in KS and I got a letter explaining the minimums, including several examples of different state's thresholds. I lost my salary classification and had to start getting an hourly wage (figured out to be equal to my salary) and am now paid overtime for anything over 40 hours, which is discouraged by our HR.

SloRide - 2016-10-12 9:37 AM If Hillary wins it will be business as usual and while I do not think that is necessarily a good thing, the Trump option is far scarier to me. Don't get me wrong, we need change, major change but we need the right kind of change. Trump is a hot **** mess and this country deserves better than both of what these two candidates have to offer.
Not being rude, just askin....Trump is scarier to you then the refugees (terrorists) and illegals that will be allowed in our country anytime??  These people that cut off heads, rape, murder etc don't scare you more than Trump?  Because they will infiltrate our country with open borders that Hillary will allow!

That's interesting.  I am a secretary at a preschool and have to do income varrifications.  One of our applicant's father is a farm worker and the paystub they submitted had 128 hours for a two week period with no overtime.  Is/was there exemptions for farms according to the amount of employees they have?

It seems every election the sky is going to fall and every election it doesn't.  When Obama got elected I heard both times I might as well forget about barrel racing.  First four years we went through a rough patch and now things are cycling back around and we are doing good.  I'm glad we didn't spend a forture on stock piling stuff.

Have you ever heard of the frog and the boiling water?

The parable of the boiled frog helps us to understand what is happening to the world. Since when to ranchers get murdered for standing up for personal property rights. Since when do "protesters" have the right to shoot police? These things are all gradually happening to those around us. But it's not happening to us, so we don't speak out. We don't sense the danger of our freedoms being stripped one at a time.

Suppose you want to boil a frog. How do you do it? You could place the frog into a pot of hot water, but as soon as it feels the heat, it will jump out. So, what can you do? Put a pot of cool water on the stove and then add the frog. Not sensing danger the frog will stay. Next, turn the burner on low to slowly heat the water. As the water warms, the frog relaxes. The warmth feels good. As the water gets hotter it acts like a steam bath draining away energy and deepening the frog's relaxation. The frog becomes sleepy and has less and less energy while the water is getting hotter and hotter. By the time the frog realizes its danger, the water is beginning to boil, and it is too late to take action. There is neither time nor energy left to do anything. The frog perishes in the boiling water.

What is the moral of the story? Be vigilant. Don't let unexpected change creep up on you. Don't become a "boiled frog." Pay close attention to what is going on around you, so that you can notice when the "water" is getting hot. We are actually there now.

Those four years that we hit a rough patch were the worst of my adult life.  We came back from it with a faith and peace that what will happen will and there is a reason for it all.  I quit worrying and live each day without the what ifs.

Thank you for sharing.

outrundaizy - 2016-10-12 9:40 AM Just throwing it out there, but do people really think Trump is a GOOD option? Or just the better option?

Im truly worried about what will happen if either of them..  To me it seems like this might all be a set up
I have always thought this was a set up from the start. Trump and the Clinton have been mingling for some time. He has donated to their shady foundation as well.

I too have wondered if this was a set up.  Not that Trump is helping Clinton.  I believe the way the Media went after the other Republican candidates, or set them up against Trump, looks like Trump is the one they wanted to run against Hillary.  Now they have turned on Trump, just to hand it over to Hillary.  Don't know how anyone in good conscience could honestly believe she would be good for the country, considering her track record.  JMO

Three 4 Luck - 2016-10-12 1:33 PM California Ag already paid overtime for over 60 hours a week, and Ag wasn't the only industry exempted from the 40 hour work week law. Really? REALLY?
That's interesting.  I am a secretary at a preschool and have to do income varrifications.  One of our applicant's father is a farm worker and the paystub they submitted had 128 hours for a two week period with no overtime.  Is/was there exemptions for farms according to the amount of employees they have?

I don't know if there are size exemptions. That's just what I read when I heard about the new 40 hour law that was passed and will go into effect next year.

Dirt Dobber - 2016-10-12 9:02 AM It seems every election the sky is going to fall and every election it doesn't.

I don't blame you one bit for not wanting to obsess about the election. I wish I could get back to obsessing about horses again. But I'm really afraid and I believe I have a good reason to be so. I just know who I'm voting for is the best option.....Trump. No contest.

After that, we can try to get some of our freedoms back from the overreaching federal government one at a time. But we need a conservative supreme court above all else. Without the right to protect ourselves (2nd amendment), we have no other rights either.

I've pretty much said bye to barrel racing. My income hasn't matched the huge jump in fuel, trucks, entries, and horses in the last eight years.

my take home income is the same as it was 10 yrs ago. got cuts then got a measly raise to go back to original salary but now i pay more for insurance. Thanks Obama. I also have huge deductables that I did not have before.
before Obama I paid about $8 bale of hay now it is almost double
I REMEMBER A POST ON HERE BEFORE OBAMA GOT ELECTED

everyone was saying what they fed and tone was very matter of fact... everyone posted how they used the best feed, best supplements and best tack; just would not sacrifice quality! I remember chuckling that would end soon and then i saw posts about cutting costs and saving money later, getting more jobs and having gardens.

there were tons of posts of board buddies going to sales and buying prospects or just buying prospects, then we had posts about people cutting their numbers, selling off, and not breeding as much. Also not as many posts about new saddles...

I know people that are not going to races anymore some are just selling out. i see starving animals  that i never saw before. i mean really who can not afford to feed a dog.  So manmy people are on foodstamps these days. There are so many homeless people I really do not know how some live in a bubble and think nothing is different.

GEEZE LOOK AROUND THE CARS ARE GETTING REALLY OLD!  i used to see so many new cars i have the same truck and car as I did before obama they are both 12 yrs old. i always had them replaced at 6-8 yr intervals

I see this too, but I do not think it is the current Presidents fault. This stuff was going on before he ever got elected. We have major economic issues and they have not gotten any better under Obama. Wages have stalled since the 70's. Trickle down economics is not working and we are heading for a future where there will simply be fewer jobs to go around. Even if we do bring back more manufacturing, there will still not be enough to go around because so much of manufacturing is automated now. I think in the future, having a job will be a privilege.
