Started late summer/early fall with about 30-45 days and then kicked back out until January!

Mine has about 45 or so rides. Trainer rode her for 30 days, I've probably put 15-20 rides on her. She lopes circles both ways and picks up correct leads. Listens well, but she is lazy. She will do what you ask, but not an ounce more. She's been turned out for a few months. Will pick back up after time changes back.

Mine can now lope circles, move off leg pressure, knows whoa, and can spin a circle into the ground. I ride her in a bosal, and despite the stifle issue, shes eager to please!

Mine is pretty dang broke.  Lope departures, leads, fairly consistent lead changes,  drags his a$$, decent turn arounds, great on the flag and even better on a cow.  But then again he's not headed for the barrel futurities, he will go NRCHA.

Started this fall because she's pretty big for her age. Has had 45ish days but she's already loping nice circles, picks up leads, counter arc's, collects, and I've trail rode around the pastures, and we're trotting a nice pattern. She's my first 2yo, and so far I'm loving it.

I'm riding a 2yo colt that we plan on leaving intact. He has not gotten more than 2 days off in a row since we started him in March. Working on basics plus hauling him a lot so that he will get used to being hauled, being around other horses and mind his manners. He has been on several trail rides with an older gelding. I do work on collection and lenghtening his stride at the w/t/canter plus turning some barrels at the trot and lope but not too much since he has a lot of growing to do. Working on using his hip/hindquarters and walking lots of hills on his trail rides.

I am bringing this thread back to.life since I just bought a colt. He will be 3 in april and he is barely started...just a few rides at the walk. I have alot of work to do but he seems like a quick learner and im anxious to work with him. Previous owner was sick, so he has just been sitting

I have 2. We were riding ours pretty regular, one we were hauling and loping exhibitions, she is super broke and doing awesome. The other one is real skiddish and snorts just being led. But, she was riding really well, until I had her teeth done! She turned into a bronc!! She never bucked before, even the first time she was rode. The colt starter, even used her during Hurricane Harvey to move cattle and pull panels through chest high water. So she hasn't been rode for a while. Has anyone else had this happen after having wolf teeth pulled? The vet told me not to ride with anything in her mouth for 10 days. This happened a little over 2 weeks later?

If you truely think it's from the teeth and not from a lay off then make sure the wolfe teeth didn't brake apart when removed. Try the feel if you can if...should be able to smell an order of infection if thats the cause.

I just purchased a project that had no saddle work. Rode him yesterday and he did fine BUT I'm keeping him up and hes getting more energy and life since hes getting healthier. I feel like he's going to be quite sassy our next ride since he's had 3 days to get over a cold he caught. I'd much prefer turtle pace LOL

Well....Mine got 45 days last fall.  Has been sitting ever since.   She was doing great, w/t/l  back, starting to pivot, nice rollbacks, super stop. I went out and rode her a couple times.
Brought her home and she went into super ***** heat and bucked me off.  So trainer came out (luckily he was close!) and rode her.  Kind of a mess, but he was very surprised at her!
So, she's been turned out to grow and mature.  Which, she has.  Pulled her out the other day and did ground work with her and a saddle pad. She never even flinched.
Itching to get on her, BUT definitely want there to be some consistency before I step on her!

I can't wait to start riding mine. I have a few clinics planned for him this summer. I think it's good exposure. :) but then again, I don't want to ride him too hard this summer. We will do the futurities at local shows next summer(2019) just to take him out.

Consistency is so a problem I have! Sometimes a colt needs a two day or extra wet blankets. In a perfect world this real job wouldn't get in the way so much.

One thing for me is being a teacher, my consistency gets better when daylight times rolls around, the weather warms up, and then the wonderful summer vacation! LOL

I plan to have my trainer put some rides on her this spring to get the woolies off and then go from there.

I am in the same boat, a teacher waiting for longer days! I need to wait for more daylight and warmer weather. I also need more weather cooperation before I attempt to pull in my 2 young ones (turning 3). They both had about 60 rides last summer then were turned out when the weather started getting iffy. Looks like we are going to get an early spring in our area so looking to pull them back in around late March or April.

Sounds like we are all in that teacher boat ladies LOL

THEN I play groom in the race barn too on the weekends and some week nights....fun times when its pitch black and you are ridding colts before and after chores!

Mine was broke last year, started on barrels, don't get to ride much, but last time I rode him he was trotting barrels. He is very smart and remembers a lot.
