run n rate - 2018-08-08 9:24 AM As the saying goes "log it, graze it, or watch it burn..." So sad what environmentalist have done in the name of keeping our environment clean and healthy. But at the same time we as a society have to take some responsibility too, we want solitude and we build our homes out away from others in places that are sometimes hard to get to, one little road leading in and out and sometimes we arent' very good about keeping a defensible space around that home. When you choose to live 45 minutes to an hour away from services you also have to realize that it is going to take that long if not more for help to arrive when the feces hits the cooling system.

most people don't want to live 1 hour from work they have to because of the cost of rent/home ownership is so high. many are just going to a place they can afford

What’s really sad is that we have 8 SEAT’s (single engine air tankers) and pilots trained to utilize NVG’s- Night vision goggles and the State of California is not responding to our offer to go assist. Our aircraft can get into areas that the big tankers cannot. Also flying at night when the wind has settled and humidity is at a higher level is beneficial..... talk about frustrating- we can only sit and watch the devastation unfold and question why they are not utilizing resources available...

My neice lost her home to forest fires in Colorado a few years ago.  She too felt that forestry management would have saved trees and homes.   It was the undergrowth and leaving dead trees she blamed.

We hauled dog food to Chico yesterday for the rescue center at the CHICO airport. 700 dogs being cared for. The woman that was overseeing the project said β€œ I remember you from the fire at Santa Rosa last year. Those people are amazing with their time. Hay on it’s way to Gridley fairgrounds, with RG to follow for the horses being held there. We bought Tractor Supply out of halters. We help when we can, but the people who move in to care for the evacuated animals are saints. Prayers to all the fire victims. 6700 homes destroyed in one day.

Native Americans, as I understand it, did controlled burns to lessen the dangers of large fires.  I Googled it but didn't have time to get very deep into it.
And yeah, liberals would rather blame global warming and of course Trump.

James Woods, the conservative actor, has a Twitter feed, encouraging others in the entertainment industry to get off their duffs and help.  He has a plethora of tweets making suggestions on how to help.  There's a picture of a horse loose in the fire area wearing a halter.  Being aware of the dangers of halters he asked that you not turn them loose wearing one as it could get caught on something.  I agree completely.

I like this man.  He's not afraid to admit he's conservative even though it's cost him many jobs in this off-the-charts liberal industry.

Looks like to me they would have control fires to take care of the under brush. So there wont be any problems with all the dry brush.
Befor winter I get all my pastures mowed down so there wont be any tall dry grass just in case a brush fire does break out behind my back pastures. Just makes sense to me.

What kills me about this is how a serious examination of forest management is so overshadowed by this rabid Trump-blaming and hatred. You have to dig a little on google to find some decent, serious, non-political articles on this subject. Here’s one, although it isn’t real detailed.

Thankfully the wind is coming out of the south the last couple of days and bringing some much needed humidity with it which is helping fire fighters on the CARR fire get some containment. The one blessing that has come from this is the way this community and surrounding counties have come together, people with very little have pitched in to help move animals. One woman pulled up the other night at the Tehama District Fairgrounds with a car load of buckets, she bought everything the local TSC had, pulled them out and wrote her name on the larger ones saying "if I could get these back that would be great but if not I hope they are needed." I was so thankful for those big buckets as we had a Clydesdale in one of the stalls with 2 very small buckets he could barely fit his muzzle into. All the volunteers were constantly walking by his stall to see if the little buckets needed topped off. Another young woman with 2 toddlers spent Saturday night till 3 am helping haul animals out of the evacuation zones, she rarely gets to go to shows and races herself but there she was helping others. So many people pitching in and if they can't get there physically to help, keeping an eye out on social media for help needed posts and relaying them to sites that are able to get there.

Hats off to you!

Prayers that they are found safe.

I know that people and home are the first concern but the wildlife suffers too. Big animal lover here
