I wonder how Alaska and Canada are doing/dealing/fairing with this coronavirus, you never heard about them on the news at all.
Looks like AK has 191 cases and 6 deaths. Canada had 11747 cases and 152 deaths 3 days ago from what I read. And I know Canada is upset because 3M was told to get their masks to American people first rather than sell to Canada. |

Right now working in yards and gardens is one of the main things people can use to stay sane--so I totally understand wanting those trees RIGHT DANG NOW!!! We are all hanging in and keeping our Lula Bell in prayers for His protective hand over her and a protective barrier around her as she works her nursing shifts in LA. Prayers for you and yours Miss R. And all of our BHW family |

| Read an interesting article about how Sweden, Norway, Finland are NOT doing the stay at home lock down and their numbers are far less than hours. The only ones sheltering are the elderly and at risk population. They are letting the younger groups actually get it to build herd immunity. Interesting concept. Maybe Bear can explain it here. |

That is strange, but maybe we are the strange ones to these other countrys, lol. I do hope that Bear does see this and I would like to know his take on how these other countrys are dealing with this coronavirus. |

Location: North of the 49th Parallel | Well I can tell you how we are dealing with it in Alberta. We've completed 68,762 tests as of today. 1432 confirmed cases, 29 deaths. 18,497 cases across Canada, 404 deaths. Ontario and Quebec are getting hit the worse. Not in a shelter in place but all non essential business are closed.

It looks like Sweden's relatively lax policies are starting to catch up with them. Their death rate per capita is almost twice ours. The actual number of cases is a little less than ours, but then I'm sure we've done much more vigorous testing. The country is increasingly anxious, and the word is that they are going to have to shut things down. I've been keeping an eye on them, just to get an idea as to whether their approach winds up being better, overall, both in terms of the deaths, as well as the effects on their economy. I think they were struggling a bit with their economy before this hit. Considering they don't have any real large metro areas with densely populated areas, it's an "apples and oranges" comparison....and when you take that into account, clearly, Covid19 seems to have hit them disproportionately hard. They'll wind up slamming on the brakes similar to us, I'm predicting, but maybe not. We'll see. Norway had restrictions more similar to ours. Much more of a virtual shutdown. Their death rate is looking like it will be half ours, per capita. There again, they have no large, densely populated areas, so it's hard to compare the effects of Covid19 in Norway vs the US....kind of an "apples and oranges" thing. In Norway's case, they may take a bigger hit to their economy, because of the drastic drop in oil prices because of the Russia-Saudi Arabia oil war. By far, their economy mostly depends on oil, more than anything. I think they are in for some tough times up ahead. It's interesting to see how these predictions by these "models" keep getting down graded. They claimed that without the travel bans and mitigation, they predicted up to 2.2 million deaths. Just a few days later they were predicting between 100,000 - 220,000 deaths. Since then, we've seen a downgrade to 80,000, and today they predict 60,000. There's talk of it being even a lot lower than that. Now we're taking influenza type numbers. Some might say with those numbers, we overreacted. I'm not so sure. I think we did it just about right. If we hadn't done what we did, we night be looking at several hundred thousand deaths, maybe more. Our healthcare delivery system definitely would have been completely overwhelmed, and who knows what would have followed. I think our government response has been pretty impressive, all things considered, and the response of the citizens really has been pretty darn amazing. More than anything, the biggest reason for those models being so far off the mark is because the people who created the models couldn't predict American's response. |

My guess is that overall some things will change, and some of that will be for the better. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I bumped this thread back up because I was thinking WOW, this has really changed up a bit from when I first posted it, how some were saying it was a hoax and not going to worry about it, the CDC were blowing this way out of proportion. And now the whole country has pretty much shut down over this, DANG, its a whole different outlook on this coronvirus now. Wish it had been a hoax, we sure would have been better off. |

I think you are so right. One of my best friends lost his sister. She died alone in the hospital and was buried without a funeral. My nephew has recovered. The nursing home in my very small town has had 5 deaths and virtually residents are infected. |

Location: Kansas | Any opinions on why this is turning up so frequently in nursing homes. I'm not surprised at the deaths given the frail condition of most residents but the invasion of it to begin with is perplexing. The small town of Clearwater, KS only a few miles from here was hit pretty hard last week (nursing home).

A nursing home thats also a rehabilitation center in San Antoino had 18 residents die within days of each other. And other nursing homes in the Austin area are getting hard hit too I just heard. I just dont see an end to this horrible virus. |
