want2chase3 - 2018-04-26 11:30 AM We had a fantastic benefit for Jacob, our community and friends and family did not disappoint! It was so much fun to see everyone and hang out.. we had some amazing BBQ and entertainment and our auction was nothing short of AWESOME. Jacob is doing so well too! He's got 3 chemo treatments left and then we go in for a scan to see what we have. Which I just know, he will be given a clean bill of health! So many fun things came from the benefit.. As some know, we had a puppy in the auction... jacob was also given a pup to keep.. well, a kind soul bid on the auction pup and won her, immediately handed her back to Jacob. He had gotten a bit attached to her while she was here for a week. So yep, I've got 2 silver lab pups added into our family now lol! They are awesome dogs tho. We didn't get quite the horse people turnout but we had a large turnout at that! Win with RG was kind enough to donate a pallet of the RG SR to us for the benefit, we ended up selling quite a bit to the handful of horse folks! I ended up with the leftover bags so I'm excited to try it out on my 3. Several guns were auctioned off and immediately handed back to Jacob too lol! He made out like a bandit I'm telling ya! Such generosity and love we are surrounded by.

That is just so great to hear and lots of fun I bet..

Awww thanks for checking in.. we've been extremely swamped with pretty much everything.. only 2 weeks left of school. Today they are Starr testing. Jacob will be testing at home, today and tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well for all the kids enduring this test! He's feeling really good, had another chemo treatment last week and it hit him pretty hard. But it only lasts for a day or so. 2 more to go!

I haven't been on here in a long time...this brought tears to my eyes and a reminder of how harsh & brutal life can be...yet, so worth the fight. I, too, went through cancer treatments this last year (Stage 3 Breast Cancer) and my heart breaks for the young who must endure it...it's doable & I'm so thankful for the treatments, however tough they can be.
God Bless you and your family. It's is hard on everyone...and it changes your perspective.
So happy for you that the end of treatments is nearing.

I'm sorry I've been terrible at updating lately. It's been pure craziness around my house.. with the last week of school here, tons of activities going on, puppies, horses and I've got to find time to get to my chiropractor 3 xs a week for my back problem! Jacobs doing pretty good. We have a slight issue with his remaining kidney.. nothing too dramatic but something we need to address and keep an eye on. The Dr's didn't like the test results that came back last treatment. He basically needs... MUST drink more water... that's tough because the kid hates to drink water I literally have to force him... it's a daily fight. We've tried adding flavors, he doesn't like it.. I've bought him a special thermos type jug that keeps it ice cold all day because it literally takes him alllll day to get 24oz down the hatch. We've tried bribing him, threatening hospital stays, everything... he's getting a little better about it but it's still a struggle! Even when we are cleared, he's going to have to take extra special care of his remaining kidney for the rest of his life!

I'm the same way with water, after this last time of me being sick and not drinking enought water I finally started buying bottle water and keeping in the refrigerator and drinking two to 3 bottles a day, its easyer for me this way so that way I know I'm getting enought water it makes me want to drink all the water in the bottle and if I dont drink it all I recap it and put it back in the frige and get it out later to finish and start working on the next one, I'm a big tea drinker but having the bottle water handy I would just grab the water befor I went for tea.
And get that back taking care of I hate it when my back aches and it does alot of that, always having to lay down flat to calm it down..

Can he have flavored water? I too have an issue with drinking just plain water, but HEB has flavored water (house brand) that is sweetend with sucralose (not sure if he can have that) and is carbonated. They have a ton of different flavors so maybe there will be a couple that he likes.
Hugs!

Β

I'm not sure of the artificial sweeter stuff, we have another appointment next week so I'll ask the dr. But they did say if the test results come back unsatisfactory again, he will need to see a kidney specialist and probably spend some time in the hospital. The LAST thing I want for him, especially with school just letting out for summer so I'm pleading with him to drink at least 24oz a day every single day! He's money motivated so my husband told him he'd get a dollar for each 24oz he drinks in a day.. it seems to be helping.. I hate the idea of doing that, but we are desperate! He's not allowed sodas, only a few on the weekends we allow for all our kids. He loves milk so he drinks plenty of that but we need the water. I was thinking of trying the vitamin water like propel or something along those lines.

Bless his heart, I can totally relate---I absolutely hate water. I'm trying to make myself drink at least two bottles a day, but it's so hard. . . . Hopefully y'all will find some way to get water into him that he can at least tolerate.

Smart water, propel, vitamin water. What about decaf tea? I'm a bariatric patient and need 96 ounces a day. I'm aloud to count tea if it's decaf (I drink unsweetened tea, but maybe there are some sweetener options). What about Powerade Zero? It's low cal and electrolyte based, which will make you crave more water.l

We had another round of chemo yesterday, only 1 more to go.. June 20th will be his final treatment. Then we will have a CT scan right around July 4th. We should be able to get the results that same day. His dr told me we should expect for Jacob to keep his port in for the remainder of this year because they will continue to do some more scans to make sure we remain in the clear. The day of the scan, we will be pretty anxious. I just pray we are good. So our little town, once a year has a big festival, parade and cook off and a pretty big concert. I was informed Jacobs baseball team is putting together a big Jacob Strong float for the parade. Super excited! He will be on the float with his team mates ... just makes me feel so loved and supported. We are having some bracelets and koozies made up for the boys to toss out to the crowd. They'll say Jacob Strong in them. I also wanted ya'll to know they will be using that beautiful Banner on the float too. I'll take lots of pictures! We could use some extra prayers, my mother is in the hospital since yesterday, they ruled out a heart attack, but are concerned she may have had a stroke... more testing is underway now.. she is in Arkansas with my sister and cousin, so I'm feeling a little anxious at the moment. They've assured me she's doing ok just not feeling like she should.
