Please do yourself a favor and avoid buffets and chains, if possible.   Follow DD's advice.  I've only been to Vegas a couple times, and couldn't stand it.   I don't do casinos.  I'd love to go to the NFR, though.  It's on my list.

I for sure see your point, but I save all year to go on this trip and for sure don't want to spend the bulk of my money eating...LOL!  My husband and I are real good at sharing meals (where they will let you) and that does help a lot!!!!

I despise casino's and that is why when I go I will play poker if I gamble at all.

I have some semblance of control at a poker table, most of the other games are purely chance.

TXBO, I have seen causal in there before, but I just feel out of place without at least a coat and tie..

Any restaurant worth a sheet will let you share.

They may charge you a plate charge but they will allow it.

Bear, the one exception in my humble opinion, is the Del Frisco in Vegas.  It's a little bit special compared to the others.

I think most of these buffets always look really good and tempting, but then the food tastes bland.  I also can never eat my money's worth there....

We went to a fancy places where they slice the meat off the skewer at the table.. it was $75 a plate and they would not let you share.. you had to buy a meal or leave... seriously!  So I let my husband get the good stuff and I ordered something smaller and WAY cheaper.  I had the money, but just refused to pay that much for dinner!  I am kind of a tight wad at eating, but will for sure spend it drinking or shopping!  LOL!  I know, makes no sense!

Since we are talking steaks and DD gave out some good advice, I have to say that if I had to choose a steak house anywhere in the country, I would probably pick a Ruth's Chris because the quality is always the same everywhere.
I have eaten at a ton of great steak houses across the country, and I just think RC's is in a class of it's own.  Best filet in the world.  I don't know how they pull it off.  It's a good investment.

really?  I have never liked their steaks-particularly for the price!  Them and Morton's.  I don't know why, they just have never lived up to the hype for me...and I have tried them in a few different places.

Point taken.  Although I'm largely a casual guy, I'll admit that I miss some of the elegance that came with the old Vegas nightlife.

Michael's was at its best when you had to know somebody to get in there.

I have the highest regard for your judgement and taste, Jim.  I'll definitely give that one a try.
Buffets on cruise ships are a good example of mediocrity made to look like excellence.

Like I said though when I feel all old school and stuff I go to the Palm. Sit in there and pretend that I'm with Sammy, Deano and Frank and drink scotch and smoke cigars(in the bar only)

I have eaten at the RC in San Antonio once a few years ago.  Food was good until two huge cockroaches came walking by us on the floor.

I'm not as crazy about Mortons......too much charcoal on the outside.  I'll save char broiling for when I am home and I get distracted for too long.

I don't like to drink, but a cognac and a Monte Cristo does have it's place.

The M hotel outside Vegas is phenomenal if you have transportation to get there. Definite worth the drive and isn't typical generic buffet food. They serve a lot of things that I hadn't heard of before and I really got to broaden my horizons and try a lot of new foods. They still usually have your typical stuff for picky people and children, but also have some things that you not all have to order as entrees at most restaurants. There's also seafood on the buffet as well so that's always an added bonus for me :). I agree with previous posts about trying to eat local and less big chain foods. I try to go to local restaurants when I'm not at hotel buffets, but. Margarita like is always one of my go-to places because I'm in love with their fish tacos & it's the only place I will eat them at.

OMG it's Vegas = buffets!

Some are much better than others, obviously, but if you spend any amount of time in this city you do a buffet.   I particularly like them cause I can get  several different awesome desserts!  YUM!  Again, Rio and Bellagio are some of the better buffets and they are a bit pricey but worth it. YMMV
