Never going to happen. Las Vegas is a destination on it's own. NFR brings a lot more people than actually go to the rodeo, and they pay what it takes to keep it. Yep I saw and interview on RFDTV with the head guy in Vegas and he said the NFR is in Vegas to stay. They love it. It keeps the businesses busy during what is usually a slow time of year for Vegas. Every year they say this. It's not leaving anytime soon. Especially now that the World series team roper growing at leaps and bounds. I heard they(South Point) are adding another barn.
The Southpoint is building another arena building that will hold 2 arenas side by side that are the same size as the current indoor pen. That should open them up to more events though I think they have 35 plus events a year now.

Location: Philly | as much as our peers may watch the NFR, wonder what what kind of nielsen rating each perf will get this year.
link to article about 2011 ratings - http://blog.gactv.com/blog/2011/12/16/wrangler-national-finals-rode...
said 9.8 million viewers - which was for over a 10 night time span (maybe more) as it said "all telecasts"which equates to about the same amount of people that watch dancing with the stars. http://www.nielsen.com/us/en/top10s.html
probably the reason GAC can only get the core sponsors and then the rest are companies like farmersonly.com
yes - i agree with the above - all the barrel racers need to support farmersonly.com and post their profile for proof. |

So agree. We never went to the NFR until it moved to Vegas.

I'm worried its not going to be a good thing for the sport of rodeo. Its not going to be on regular CBS but on a CBS Sports channel. I haven't taken the time to see if I get that channel or not.
i don't know if I get it either, so PRCA if you are reading this thread, if I don't already have that channel, I'm not paying extra for it. I watch it in the morning after I DVR it, can't stay up that late. So I will just watch it on youtube. I think GAC has done the best job of all networks that have carried it so far. |

Location: My Own Little World | I too am concerned about the move to CBS Sports. I have grown to enjoy the coverage on GAC. I understand that the PRCA is trying to grow the fan base of rodeo. That being said, I sure hope they listen to the fans & have guidlines for CBS to follow. Although, if they want to grow their fan base, it will take quite a marketing plan. |

I agree. The sports channels could care less because its not some sort of ball. GAC has covered it very well. |

Location: Beggs, OK | The commentator Jeff Medders owns Geronimo Productions that produces the GAC show for the NFR. He assured us last night that nothing will change. He still has a 3 hour production and you will still see every run of every event.
He's on FB and Twitter. Stop speculating and look further into what's behind the show. It's not GAC...it's Jeff.

So GAC is still doing their rodeo coverage shows. Doesn't mean the NFR isn't changing networks. |

Let me clarify...Jeff will still be producing the show that is going to be on CBS Sports just like he is producing the show that is on GAC this year. |

well, unless they take out a few parking lots or purchase some land in a different spot... there is nothing around them that I can see where they would put 2 more arenas side by side. South side of South Point across the street is condo/hotel Grandview Resort, north side W. Silverado Ranch Blvd, west is the I-15 freeway and east is the Strip. Unless they take the parking lots behind the hotel where most of the contestants park their rigs- Where oh where are they going to conjure the space? |

the only problem with youtube is you won't see all the events..... I've been watching rounds of the barrel racing, but can't find anything on team roping, tie down or steer wrestling. Would be nice if someone would tape the whole rodeo and put it on YouTube, but I think that would be an infringement of rights. |

Location: Stephenville, TX | I would love for them to offer a pay-per-view live webcast of the NFR for those of us who don't have "fancy" TV, don't want to stay up late and don't want to buy a DVD set every year. I'd think that would be a growing market as more people ditch cable and satellite for Netflix, Hulu, etc. Webcast the whole rodeo including the acts. If I was at home, I'd pay to watch live.
I'm not a sports fan so I don't know, but do they offer that for other sports? Or do they force fans to keep cable or satellite to watch the games? |

I would guess they are taking out the parking lots, because it appears to be attached to the current equestrian center. 100,000 square feet would be a little over 2 acres. Land is cheap in that area!
