| Running Roan - 2015-01-19 7:28 PM painthorse7796 - 2015-01-19 7:00 PM Just saw it last night...all I can say is WOW, excellent movie, I had no idea who Chris Kyle was until then...what a true American Hero...and to all the military/war haters shame on YOU and go move to another country like Iraq! ( I had read comments on a FB post) The ending left me unclear as to WHY this happened to him? I guess I don't understand that 25yr olds motive? I know he had post traumatic stress...just so sad all around. I really want to read the book now, does anyone know where to buy it cheapest online? Amazon? PTSD can be devastating in so many ways. Hopefully this movie will make more people aware of the struggles our soldiers go through, including the reality of PTSD.
Eddie Ray Routh, accused of killing ‘American Sniper' Chris Kyle, confessed to sister, told her he ‘traded his soul for’ Kyle’s truck: report Eddie Ray Routh told his sister that he killed former Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle and that he 'traded his soul for a new truck,' court documents say. Routh, who suffers from PTSD, was being held in solitary confinement after he attacked jailers on Sunday night. NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Tuesday, February 5, 2013, 9:07 AM APEddie Ray Routh, 25, was charged with murder in connection with a shooting at a central Texas gun range that killed former Navy SEAL and 'American Sniper' author Chris Kyle and his friend, Chad Littlefield. He "traded his soul for a new truck."Those were the haunting words a mentally unstable vet muttered to his sister hours after he gunned down Chris Kyle, the military's most lethal sniper, at a Texas shooting range and then drove to her home in Kyle's black Ford pick-up, court documents show.Eddie Ray Routh admitted to his sister and her husband on Saturday night that he had killed Kyle and another man, Chad Littlefield, at the Rough Creek Lodge outside Fort Worth, court documents obtained by local WFAA-TV said. When Laura Blevins asked Routh whose F-250 he was driving, he told her it was Kyle's, and made the chilling remark about paying the ultimate price for the vehicle, the documents said. PAUL MOSELEY/APChris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL and author of the book 'American Sniper.' Kyle and Littlefield had brought Routh, a former Marine, to the shooting range as part of treatment for Routh's post-traumatic stress disorder. Blevins urged her brother to turn himself in. He was arrested later that night at his home outside Dallas.Despite the remark about the truck, investigator still aren't sure what drove the 25-year-old former Marine and Iraq war vet to open fire on Kyle, 38, and Littlefield at the upscale shooting range.Kyle and Littlefield brought Routh to the range at around 3:15 p.m. Saturday as a form of treatment to help him cope with a crippling case of post-traumatic stress disorder. HANDOUT/REUTERSThe cover of 'American Sniper.' Kyle served four tours in Iraq and was credited with more than 160 kills. Former soldiers and veterans groups have said that trips to gun ranges are a common form of therapy for vets struggling with PTSD.Shooting - and becoming re-accustomed to loud sounds -- can be cathartic for vets who have spent time in war zones, veterans groups say.Police said Routh shot both men several times with a semi-automatic handgun before taking Kyle's truck and driving to his sister's house in Midlothian, some 30 miles south of Forth Worth. Three staff members discovered the bodies of Kyle and Littlefield lying at around 5 p.m.Both had multiple wounds and were covered in blood, WFAA reported. One of the staff members tried to perform CPR before police arrived. Routh, 25, was arrested on Saturday night at his home outside Dallas. According to police records, he had been taken to a mental hospital twice in the last four months for threatening to kill himself and his family. Several weapons were found at the scene, including semi-automatic rifles, semi-automatic handguns and revolvers, the station reported.Kyle served in the Navy from 1999 to 2009 and served four tours in Iraq, where he was credited with more than 160 kills. He received 14 different awards and decorations, including two Silver Stars and five Bronze Stars, and wrote the best-selling book, "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History." FACEBOOKChris Kyle's best seller told of his military exploits from 1999-2009. . In the book, he claimed Iraqi insurgents nicknamed him al-Shaitan, or "The Devil," and put a $20,000 bounty on his head.Routh's post-war path was more troubled. The exact nature of his mental issues is unclear, but police records showed he was taken to a mental hospital twice in the last four months for threatening to kill himself and his family. In one of those incidents, on Sept. 20, he became upset with his parents after drinking alcohol and told them he planned to "blow his brains out," police records showed.Hours after his arrest on Saturday, he was shocked with a stun gun and later put on suicide watch after he menaced jailers with his food tray, Sheriff Tommy Bryant said. With Stephen Rex Brown, Scott McBride and News Wire ServicesOn mobile? | I have refrained on commenting until after I saw the movie. I read the book and it shocked me. I saw the movie yesterday and it is safe to say I am still in shock - even knowing what the ending would be. I am not sure how anyone can see this movie and think that it is sensationalizing war and killing people - just the exact opposite in my opinion. We all get to sit here in our happy places and type into cyberspace while men and women volunteer every day to put their lives on the line (while their famiies anxiously worry every single day) so we can enjoy the freedoms our of this country. I had to turn my head away at a few parts because it makes me think how truly blessed we are to be able to live in a place where we can have differing opinions. I simply cannot even fathom the horror that goes on in the middle east. This morning I turned on my TV to see that ISIS is now holding two Japanese journalists hostage and threatening to behead them if they are not given $200 million in 72 hours. And Chris Kyle was right - many people in the USA do not pay attention nor do they care - they are fighting to protect our freedoms and keep it from happening here. So thank you to all of you who fight, have fought, or have family in the military. You ARE appreciated.

Location: SE Louisiana | I remember seeing a sniper type movie about 2 snipers (one American and one German) darting around a bombed out German city trying to kill each other... Can't for the life of me remember the name of it. The American sniper used to quote scripture as he was drawing a bead on his target.

Location: In the Hills of Texas | Our daughter went the other night and she said it was the first time that you could hear a pin drop in the theatre. What Michael Moore said was beyond ridiculous and I posted on Facebook for everyone to go to his FB page and let him know how they felt. Of course in typical Liberal progressive fashion, Moore is trying to spin what he said. Too late.. |

Location: Alberta | banjomia - 2015-01-19 11:29 AM I thought this movie was brilliant. As far as moving slow....I disagree completely....in fact, my only complaint is I thought it moved to fast...but that is because I wanted to soak up everything I could about Chris Kyle. A life like his is hard to put in a two hour movie. I don't like violent movies and I don't like war movies....but this is different because its a true story and I think every single American should watch this movie. We go about our lives everyday and we never really truly understand the lives of those who protect this very freedom. America's dream is peace. But the reality is we are living with people (terrorists) who hate everything we stand for and want to destroy this free country. Chris Kyle was a hero. He dedicated and gave his life to protect all of us. Although he was one of most notorious snipers of all time....we should focus more on the lives that Chris saved and not the lives he was forced to take. Bradley Cooper, in my opinion, became Chris Kyle. I would venture to guess he is a changed man after that performance. Eastwood did right by Chris Kyle and his family. Take some time to see the movie...but before you do...know who Chris Kyle was....it will make the movie much more powerful.
All of this! To me it was a powerful movie...
Canadians need to see it too! |

| Read a article on line about the whole thing. The guy was a nut, he had bigger issues than just PTSD. His mom worked (I think) at the school that chris took his kids to and asked him to talk to the guy. I believe it was the first time chris had ever meet the guy. And the mom neglected to tell chris the guy had been in and out of mental hospital. He was schizophrenic. |

Someone else mentioned that to me via PM. I had not seen it until just a few hours ago.. No. I finally came up with the name. It was Saving Private Ryan. As far as Enemy at the Gates, I thought it was worth watching and well made. |

Location: WV | Loved this movie... It moved a little slow but fast at the same time for me. I can not fathom what theses men and women have gone threw. There is no way anyone could not have some type of emotional reaction to this move. I was still crying after the movie in the car talking to my husband about my family and what they have gone threw and what they still are going threw from being over there and how much they have given up for all of us. The entire theater was silent at the end and all you could hear was the sniffling. Will have to read the book also. Great movie by Clint Eastwood!! |

Location: Finally horseback again.... | Best movie Ive seen in a long time. I have always been a fan of Chris Kyle's. he is a true American hero in my book. If you can walk out out of the theater after seeing this without having tears in your eyes and a whole new respect for not only this man and his family but ALL of our military then you have a serious problem. I think Bradley Cooper did a fantastic job playing his role. He was able to portray so much emotion and personality into Kyle's character and that it drew you in to him as a man and a soldier. |

I can't.
Maybe when it's out on Netflix or Amazon I'll watch it.
Too close to home for me.
Glad so many liked it. I hope it shows the real repercussions of combat
If you haven't seen Five Finger Death Punch's video for 'Wrong Side of Heaven' you need to see it. You'll understand why when you do. |

Location: Central Texas | My son served in the Marines, he is no longer active. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He told me very little about what he did there other than he was "point" on their patrols and gunner (one in the turret) on the hum v's. He was 19 when he left. Watching this movie I very clearly got to see what he did. Thank God I didn't have full knowledge at the time of just how close and involved it all was. Call me naive. I needed to be I am his mother. He came home safely, at least body wise. We dealt alot with the PTSTD, still do but it's much better. He has gotten on with his civilian life and doing well. Thank the Lord. With that being said, I thought the movie was one of the best movies I have seen. I felt it probably got as close as possible to what happens. I appreciate the fact that it showed what happens at home as well when our guys and gals return and what their family members deal with upon that return. It was no more gory to me than most of the shows on TV now days. I have always respected the military and what they do for our country, this movie just instilled that feeling a little more. I don't care what people in Hollywood and the anti military people say. THEY ARE HEROES in every sense of the word. As others have stated, when the movied ended and people walked out, it was complete and total silence. |

Location: Heart of Texas | Call me crazy, I have family that served...but PTSD is a real thing. Yes, the guy that shot Chris and his friend is evil in all of our minds but he's not mentally correct. And he's not mentally correct because HE TOO went to fight for our country. Nobody knows the things HE saw or went through. The movie sent a great message as to what our service folks do, but it also shed a lot of light on the after effects for these soldiers and their families. We as country need to do more to take care of these people and help them get back to a "normal" life. Everybody deals with things in a different way but even our own government turns their backs on these guys. They cheat them out of benefits, pay, and overall care. Perhaps, had the military took the time to properly evaluate this guy, he wouldn't have even been on the streets period. Cris Kyle only wanted to take care of his fellow soilders and I think the best way we can honor him is step up and take care of the people he tried so hard to help. |

I cannot believe I don't remember hearing about Chris Kyle or his death when it happened. I downloaded the book and hopefully will get time to read it soon!
I think America Sniper is a movie EVERYONE should see! Makes me very thankful for those that can and will go serve our country!
