Actually, i think it should be called a "Disagree" button. That's pretty much how I used it.
Or maybe we can label it the "I dislike this post, but I don't necessarily dislike YOU so you should not be offended or take this as a personal attack in any way, I still think you're a super person and totally not crazy in any way" button

A lot sites just use a thumbs up and a thumbs down. No words.

LRQHS - 2015-02-06 8:48 AM I think it only mattered with the dislike button. It was a cowardly way to attack people over everything they said and it hurt some feelings.
Why do we need a dislike button? I agree, causes hard feelings and if we're going to be like fb, keep it off of here. No one on here is so shy that they won't respond with a post.
Oh!! So you only want to have some unnamed person blow rainbows up your butt? You don't want to see those that do not agree anonymously?

Not even close to what I said.

Haven't read anything but the original post. If it makes the page longer to make room to list all the names of those who liked a post, then I say no.

Im not in favor of them.  This board was built on what we had to say rather than just a click one way or another.  Go to facebook if you want one click opinions.   This is a discussion board not a yea or nay vote.

I agree with GTTW. Therefore, I liked her post. Lol..... honestly do agree with her, but whatever floats the majority boat.

I can't believe so many people are saying they 'liked' the dislike button! Wasn't there a huge thread about it being mean and awful and people cheering when it went away?
Maybe I'm just a pansy but I didn't like the dislike button LOL. I'm a people-pleaser so it bugged me when someone disliked my post. Especially because I didn't post anything rude or opinionated, so I wondered what on Earth there was to dislike about my post.
As for the original post, I don't really see a point to seeing who liked your post. But I'm not against the idea. I think identifying those who disliked a post would have created some entertainment!!

The question is... Do you want to see the names of the people that hit the Like button. (like you do on many sites.. like CNN and FB) I think that unless you have a Dislike button with the same option, you are only getting one side of the story. But.. maybe that's all some folks want to see..

Yes. There was a big thread about it. Some people were worn out because they had apparently been targeted by someone disliking everything they said. So, a few people who were very charged up about it posted about how horrible the dislike button was. Like you said, they didn't say anything bad, but someone disliked it and, while I don't think you're a pansy, I just don't understand why some people are so bothered by it. But, anybody who was brave enough to post on that thread saying they liked the dislike button got pretty much attacked. If I remember correctly the pro-dislikers were called names. It got pretty ugly.
And, of course, nobody could just "like" or "dislike" because the buttons were gone. So, the pro-dislikers just stayed out of the conversation.

Totally agree with Komet. And if your skin is that thin and you don't want anyone to disagree with you then don't post. I don't understand why posters think someone is attacking them by hitting the dislike button. They just don't agree with you, that's life. I have seen a lot of posters "attacked" with words on here so thats why I don't get the haters of the dislike button. It seems minor compared to some of the posts!

It's not that serious, and by the way...the likes, and dislikes are not anonymous. I've liked and disliked many, but at this point in my life its so not important.

I think there were a couple that announced that they were pregnant or engaged or something like that that should have been happy news and someone disliked it and their feelings were really hurt. In fact, I think one of those left the board completely. Although this is a discussion board, I think our job here on earth is to encourage one another and not tear each other down. You don't have to agree to encourage. You can say something like, "Well, that's not what I would do, but if it works for you, that's great. Here is what I would do.....or something along those lines...." I guess being a career teacher for 37 years has made me aware of how some little things that we think might not matter can really hurt someone whose self esteem is already suffering....and yes, we should be concerned about those things. This board can be SOOO compassionate at times, and I've witnessed it over and over, but it can also be a very hateful and mean place, and I've witnessed that, too. Maybe instead of like and dislike buttons, we could take a little time and actually try to COMMUNICATE.....and not attack or suck up.....I think doing away with the buttons completely is great. I liked this board when we didn't have them, and I never noticed or used them when we did have them...so either way, I'm just thankful for the knowledge and friends I've gained through BHW.

I know page 4 is the dianeguinn show, but maybe I'm the only one that's inside on this beautiful day. I don't know if many of you know, but my daughter is on a year long mission trip....she goes to 11 countries in 11 months....it's called the World Race and she is on month 8 now and in Cambodia. Here is a blog she posted two days ago, and I think it's very appropriate for this thread.....and this is coming from a 22 year old. If you like or disagree with what she said, please post on the comments below her blog as she won't see it if it's posted here, but she can read the comments on her blog. But I do think it might be very appropriate for our discussion here. http://jessicaguinn.theworldrace.org/?filename=america-i-love-you-b...

Wow, Diane... that was really well said. You're right, it can be pretty brutal here sometimes.

Maybe there should be a way the admins can see who clicks likes and dislikes. I can see where having that information would be valuable for complaints. In the case where someone clicked dislike for another BB's good news. If the mods could look at the history and tell when a person is abusing another BB in such a way, that would solve the problem.

A note from the mods that the person just clicked accidentally (which is easy on the touch screen phones) and that person has no history of stalking a certain person would be a better way to handle it. Or, suspending an account of someone who really is stalking.

I also like the idea of the thumbs up & thumbs down, without a label. It was nice to agree without making another post saying basically the same thing. And it was nice to disagree with a click, especially when someone just said something rude and I didn't want to get in an off topic discussion when their post was obviously juvenile. I just liked having those buttons.

Yes on 'like'. user's choice on 'dislike'. Some things, I do not want everyone to know that I 'dislike'
