| I put on a youth hunt every year for disabled, and terminally ill children. I have "access" to one of those chairs. After seeing children struggle with a traditional chair to just navigate thru grass verses using the all terain chair, it makes me sick that insurance companies don't give one to everybody. Mobility goes down to almost zero when those kids get off of a hard surface. |

Location: Kansas | FriendswoodKat - 2015-03-02 9:14 PM I am only speaking for myself when I say that I'm glad to live in a country where I can choose to make a difference in someone's life. Yes, one person could have been a big shot and donated the entire amount needed but many people got to step up, participate, and be a part of something big.... Helping a girl who didn't ask for something felt good. Watching my daughter refresh the Gofundme page and grow in excitement as a goal is realized was priceless. Isn't helping each other the American way? And literally, for the price of a happy meal or box of Girl Scout cookies, my daughter and I got to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. My heart is full. But then again, it's not about me. I just wish I could be in a position to help more people more often. God bless.
god bless you. I love your outlook on helping people |

Thank you...I was trying to think of Lea's name last night!!
While trying to think of Lea's name, I thought of you and wondered if you had ever tried the computer system that write from the spoken work? Dragon is one of the system's I see advertised on TV. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | In my opinion one of the reasons the gofundme was started was to raise awarness for quads. To get her story out there ya know? To inspire other girls (and boys) like herself who just want to get back on. Had she just bought the chair it wouldn't have had as big of an impact as the account has had. There wouldn't be discussions about it. There wouldn't be people asking for her to come speak at their events or to inspire others to get back up there and ride. I'm not saying it was for publicity. I'm saying maybe they started it to help others who have never heard of Amberley's story to hear it and to be inspired by it. I Love the idea. Anyone know what the total was/is?
Besides, to the ones who are saying she couldv'e just bought it herself : You people would've griped about her having the money to buy one anyway. LOL |

| It was very inspirational to see her race on Sunday. I believe they surpassed the goal and according to Fallon's video they are leaving the account up to help with a truch purchase that can be accessible to her. |

Actually, the original chair was made for the guys wife. She was in a terrible car accident that left her paralyzed. He said that when they went camping she missed out on all the family outings away from camp and he just couldn't handle it. I spent many nights in his shop engineering her a chair that would allow her participate in the family outings and giver her freedom from her injury. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Here's my 2 cents worth. Does Amberley need a tank chair? Probably not, looks like she is the kind of person that has figured her way out around without it. Would it improve her ability to do so. From all the reports it certainly looks that way. She was excited about the prospect of cleaning her own stalls!!! Did she ask you and I to go fund her? Nope. I believe Fallon Taylor did. I'm sure the Fallon haters just want to believe she did it to make herself look good, that could be, none of us will ever know. Regardless by her using her celebrity she did something good for someone else. We could all learn a lesson from that.
My hats off to both ladies and the people that chose to help someone elses life become a little more convenient for them. |

Location: MI | I think the most contagious thing about Amberley is her humble handwork. Really, she has overcome amazing adversity (I'm into alliteration today I guess) and is an awesome role model. I super respect her.
I am grateful to work in our 'Rehab Tech Center' at our local rehab hospital. I work directly with computer access (ex. that Dragon thing someone mentioned earlier :) and am 'team champion' for the department which includes specialty/custom seating and positioning (wheelchairs, etc.). I just attended the International Seating Symposium, and much of the emphasis was on how the government won't listen to the suppliers and us therapists, but is starting to listen to the consumers. There have been some awful, difficult legislation pass recently resulting in Medicare changes that have really impacted people who need complex rehab equipment - even to where if someone has gotten certain equipment and goes into a hospital, hospice, or nursing home, they will stop paying for it/will take it back. It's a big deal for people who need the equipment, so if you get a chance to vote or raise your voice to advocate for changes, do it! We try so hard to advocate for our patients to get them the equipment they need, but I think it's going to take a lot of voices to change things - and, unfortunately, so many of our patients and their families need so much time and energy just taking care of their own needs, that they don't have the time or energy to really reach out and push back.
And bonus, it's free to contact your legislator/congressman!
Anyway, that's my public service announcement for the day :) |

Location: MI | Lobo - Dragon is a software that can be put on a computer system. There are a few variations (Home, Premium), it works well - but beware that their advertising makes it look easier than it is. Especially with a higher level SCI, we always set the person up with a mouse, because training your Dragon can be finicky and if they are having respiratory issues that day and their voice has changed, it doesn't work so well.
Cheryl - Stem cell therapy is not approved in the US yet. They mentioned stem cells at the conference I just went to and how the past protocol has been to rest after the transfer, and they haven't shown great progress. However, more recently a dog was injected and the dog accidentally ran around some after the injection, and the cells integrated much better than before. They are finding that exercise after stem cell treatment may be the key to progress. I found this so interesting, because I had just had a conversation with my vet about stall rest and how it may not be the 'gold standard' that it was once for recovery for some injuries. |
