That's a vet tech that certainly deserves a real pat on the back.....going above and beyondΒ her call of duty! Continued prayers for a speedy and complete recovery! Β

I agree, a sweet soul, no doubt & an angel for our Willa! She will never know how truly grateful we are for her and what she has done to help us save Willa, regardless of the outcome, we will be eternally thankful for her.

lookyheremac - 2015-12-07 12:35 PM UPDATE: Willa is hanging in there. She has had to have damaged/infected tissue removed from around and inside several of the wounds. She has lost some weight, but has began eating and drinking on her own again. One of the vet techs has offered to take her in for us for close monitoring and wound care due to our work schedules not allowing us to provide the care she needs right now. She is in great hands. The vet tech seems more optimistic than the vet himself. Willa is much more comfortable getting to be in an actual home and away from the vet office atmosphere. We are keeping faith and hoping and praying for a full recovery. It is possible! What a Christmas gift that would be to have her on the mend and at home with us to watch her "person" open his gifts on his 1st Christmas morning! Thank you so much for your continued thoughts and prayers! They mean so much (:

Wow what a awesome vet tech, this warms my heart that you have someone like this working for the Vet you use. There is such good people that love animals as much as we love them.
many prayers for Willa

Continued prayers, kudos the vet tech!   So glad Willa is recovering in a home.   I had a cat that was caught in a car engine, he stayed at the vet a week, wounds healing but would not eat.   I decided to bring him home and he immediately started eating.

I'm so glad you updated us, been praying for sweet Willa. It's wonderful when we know the vets and the techs care about our animals as much as we do. I hope your family's early Christmas gift is Willa lying by the tree pain free before you know it.

Kind of a bittersweet update:

First of all, I would like to let you all know that there was a bobcat captured in a trap this week about 1/2 mile from my house. It is very likely that this cat, or its relatives were responsible for Willa's injuries.

Willa is still hanging in there. They are talking about a blood transfusion now. She still has a LONG LONG road ahead of her. She is pitiful to look at, but does not seem to be in pain and is somewhat playing and is eating and drinking on her own.

I want to tell a little story about Willa, about her life, before I tell where this is going:

Willa was born with a purpose, she was bred to be a service dog. The family that picked her needed her very very much, as they had an infant with seizures. Willa was never intended to be a pet, she was a caretaker, an alert system, a saving grace for this family. Unfortunately, the baby did not survive. The family was distraught and decided to let Willa go. Some where along the line she ended up with the sweet lady who re-homed her with me. It was perfect, my little boy was only a few months old and they shared an instant bond. She never left his side. He is a healthy baby, therefore Willa has gotten to be a normal dog, a pet for the time she has spent with us.

Now, the sweet, sweet angel of a vet tech that has taken in and has been caring for Willa 24/7 is an epileptic. Her service dog was attacked by a pack of dogs earlier this year and did not make it. She and Willa have developed a bond, a special one. Anyone that sees them together can see that Willa is as dedicated to this lady as much as this lady is dedicated to her.

I have made the decision to offer for her to keep Willa. As I expected, she accepted right away. I am absolutely heartbroken but deep down I feel that I have made the right decision. I feel like I was a temporary safe haven and chance for Willa to experience normal dog life and through all the recent tragedy, we were led into the perfect scenario, the perfect match. Willa is no doubt a once in a lifetime dog. I don't know that I will EVER be able to replace her, and I have no drive to even try at this point. My little boy still asks for her and looks for her to come running with her ball to play when we go outside. It makes me feel terrible, but I know that when he is old enough to understand that he will be proud of the decision I made and proud that we were able to help Willa and the vet tech meet each other.

Thank you all so so so much for your thoughts and prayers, she still needs them!

Doesn't our God work in mysterious ways?? He had a purpose and path for Willa, you, your son, and that special tech. My goosebumps have goosebumps----I agree you will be blessed beyond measure by your actions. This will show your son, when he's old enough, what it means to have a pure and loving heart. And what more can a child hope for than to have that in his momma. . . . What a special Christmas story you've shared with us. I thank you
