I AM being nice

Location: MD | I am a very superstitious person. I use certain things on certain horses and I don't care how ridiculous I look. It makes me feel better, more confident and I ride better. This past year at the NBHA World Show, I was laughing with a friend in the warm up pen about my lack of matching tack on my horse. There I was, maroon nylon, one ear headstall. Tie down on a red hanger, with a black tie down strap. White Ed Hardy breast collar, pink and beige wool show blanket, a pair of black and pink zebra polos on one alternating pair of legs and bubble gum pink polos on the other. To top it off, I was wearing a hot pink shirt! Now, I didn't win the Round that day, but I was 18th out of 799. Oh, I had been 7th in the 21 Race the day before too.

That mare's owner always ran her in pink and they were quite successful. When I took over the ride, I took the pink off of her for two runs and they both stunk! Salpped the pink back on her and we went to having the sort of runs that we should. I never ran her in anything but pink again! lol |

| I run in a leather headstall I got from tractor supplies. I have other nicer sets but just like the simple stuff. A snaffle and a breast collar I borrowed of my moms bf who never rides ;) if I start winning maybe I'll purchase something more expensive, but for now I'm happy with the simple stuff. My saddle has a purple seat so for me that's enough *bling* my boots for my horse is black cause no matter what everything goes with black.
I do like to see what everyone has on or what their riding styles. So if I'm staring at you, I'm not judging. I'm admiring your pretty horse and tack!! |

Supposedly it's a page pure based off making fun of other peoples tack. Down to the point of stealing other peoples pictures, and posting them. WTH??! |

That whole group just ticks me off.....nothing but a bunch of keyboard warriors who believe their sh** don't stink because they are such "horsemen" on their big knot headed nags. |

Location: Northern Ontario | Well, I have very fancy tack, a fancy horse trailer (even if its just a two horse) pretty show clothes, and a fancy coloured horse (who isnt even bred for barrels). I look the part, but am definitely not. I am just starting out again and have always asked for horse stuff for all my birthdays (when I was in university and horseless), my trailer was a killer deal, my horse was bought as a wild two year old for cheap, and I borrow my bfs fancy lifted truck because I can't afford one. So sometimes you can be judged for looking the part and sucking lol |

Silly.
I agree. You know I am really enjoying my 50's - I just don't judge any more. It takes up to much energy and I don't have that much extra energy anymore, lol. I love the differences in people, it would be such a boring world if we all did, looked and said the same things. Diversity rocks, people! |

| I have probably been featured on that tacky tack page, lol, but I could care less. They probably make fun of my facial expressions too. (I was at QH Congress once and someone told me where the pictures of the runs were and a couple of people were in there looking. I waited patiently while the laughed at some people, then looked over their shoulder after one burst of hilarity and lo and behold, they were laughing at MY picture!).
I have no problems with nylon....if it has regular buckles. All those fancy bridles usually have Chicago screws and I hate them. Have had them come undone even WITH nail polish for insurance. I have seen many a wreck and almost wrecks from one coming undone, so I prefer a safer route over flash and maybe no dash.
Good serviceable tack. Then there is the ratty built up saddle pad I have been running in. It was the final piece in the solution of my downhill mare. I have been trying to find a decent looking new one, but they are ALL tacky looking. I mean the old fashioned ones, a Corrector type pad will not do!
Add to all of that that I use rubber bands like most use duct tape. Need a keeper? Use a rubber band. Once something works, why change it? I have a VERY superstitious friend who has made the IFR several times. She was having trouble settling on headgear for her mare. I lent her a hackamore complete with faded red (pink she called it) vet wrap on the nose and rubber bands for keepers all over the headstall and a pair of old, worn out MJ knot reins completed the ensemble. I think she won that rodeo and forced me to sell her that very bridle. She refused to change a thing. When the rubber bands broke, she replaced them with new ones, all to the despair of one of our VERY OCD friends and to the amusement of all.
I like good, serviceable tack. I do like some fancy stuff. If I like it, I keep it and use it long after it has gone out of fashion.
You won't catch me winning any fashion shows but if I can make it to the pay window, I am happy. Go ahead and judge. I don't know you so why would I care what you think? |

Location: North Dakota | I'm guilty. Absolutely guilty. But I do not do that to be snotty. I won't judge someone for having inexpensive tack or an older saddle or what have you. I make judgements based on if the saddle CLEARLY does not fit the horse, or the pad is something like a Tacky Too that is sooooo bad for them or if they have a crazy bit or a tie down that's way too tight. Any tack that is being used totally wrong, does not fit, or looks unsafe irks me. Mismatched tack also *slightly* gets to me just because it looks so messy and visually unappealing, but I understand a lot of people don't care and it's none of my business. I've been pretty mismatched before myself, but in that case I drive myself nuts! |
