Location: Feeding mosquitos, FL | I've started referring to Irma using words that BHW will bleep out. IF she makes landfall somewhere south of us and stops effing shifting west, we should get tropical storm/low level hurricane stuff which is easy.
Worst case scenario is she stays in the Gulf and gets good and strong. We're prepared to go (bonus of living in the Panhandle: lots of ways out) if that happens but praying we don't have to. |

I almost went to the panhandle now I'm glad I didn't! Should die down by the time it gets up there I hope |

Tallahassee is a mad house. Interstate was crawling yesterday and I had to kick some Miami off road bros out of our woods. A bunch of my friends are leaving but I'm a Tampa transplant. It takes a higher number to scare me off. We're as ready as we'll ever be. Crossing everything I have for my family in Tampa. |

| I didn't read the whole post. But I live in the Sarasota area. We evacuated to upstate NY. Yes I know very long drive but all of my family is there so I made it a little vacation lol! A friend lent me a trailer, so all 10 horses came with me. |

Location: California | I have family that has decided not to evacuate and they will be a direct hit with some high tornado possibilities. Being Florida natives I CAN NOT BELIEVE they refuse to evacuate! They don't have horses or large animals, just dogs. I seriously just can't fathom why anyone would stay.
This may sound harsh but it's not meant to be:
Not enough trailer space? Nowhere to go? There are THOUSANDS of people offering to help for FREE on Facebook!
Can't leave your job? I'd personally rather risk them firing me then to risk the life of my family and animals.
Yes it's hard to get back but it's so worth it to know you and your family and horses are SAFE!
I'm in Texas now but I grew up in Florida. I've lived through hurricanes. Been there and done it. There is no way in hades I would be riding out a Cat 5 hurricane! My little butt and my animals would be way north by now just to be sure.
My prayers are with everyone no matter what you decided! |

Location: Florida | One reason not to evacuate was because we did not know where it was going. Where do you head to? Not everyone can run all the way to OK City to be sure they are safe. The east coast went to central Florida or west coast, then every on the west coast had to run to the east coast. I stayed and don't regret it one bit. |

I would have fled as far north as possible honestly. If i didn't have the means I would have figured it out. That's just how I am. Not saying everyone who stayed is wrong, simply explained how my brain works. You couldn't pay me enough to tempt fate and ride out Irma or any other hurricane. I have a very real possibility of moving back to Florida and do plan on running if ever needed. I know storms like Irma are very uncommon but the whole uncertainty of it all and the whole state being hit would have had me running with my tail tucked, horses and dogs in tow. |

I'm on the east coast and glad I didn't leave. It's not as bad as the media makes it out to be, and we don't get tornados like they do out west, they're usually water spouts or smaller twisters. |

I can't imagine getting stuck on the interstate with animals. I sure understand why you stayed. They didn't know where it was going to hit the hardest.
Prayers for everyone in Irma's path. |

Location: Florida | The power has finally decided to stay off. I don't care, I have a propane generator, but two hours of going off and on and off and on stinks. Just when the modum and cable box have rebooted, it would go off again. Branches have been hitting the roof for hours. Now that we have the hurricane force winds stuff is hitting the sides of the house. That is why we have impact windows down here. I am inland but on a canal that connects to the Indian River 5 miles away so I hope the storm surge doesn't get this far. It has only happened once before about 35 years ago. Septic quit hours ago, too much standing water. Now that it is dark this storm doesn't even offer a good view. I don't why storms always get bad after dark, nothing to see now. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | I am in Labelle, Fl, south of the Lake....we did not get the eye but got the really strong wall band next to the eye. It got hairy there for awhile but we survived. Wind is still gusting and we are on generator powere. We do have some damage but it could have been worse. Too dark to see much now. When the bad gusts die down I will go out and call the horses (2) up and put them in the barn for the rest of the night so they have dry spot to stand in. |

Location: Florida | This morning have very low water pressure and no TV cable. See on the internet (wireless hot spot) that we are under a boil water alert for what water we have. Opened the back door with the flood lights on to put out a pot to catch rain water and I see my very old pineapple plant is blown flat. I just picked the fruit off that one so it wasn't top heavy. Can't wait to see what daylight brings when I can see around. So much stuff has been hitting the house that had to come from somewhere. |

How does it look in the daylight? Prayers for your safety. |
