WrapSnap - 2013-12-09 12:13 PM Okay y'all! Let's do this the right way. This might actually be beneficial to a few of us. Starting at the top and working my way down the list, I'll give my observations, input, etc... Sherry- Obviously, Sherry is always super correct. I'll bet we've all noted that she's having to be more aggressive and stay two handed longer than normal in order to keep Stingray square coming into the pockets. Boy, she sure is doing a great job! Mary- It has seemed to me that while Mary has a wonderful style, the couple of barrels that have come down for her seem to have happened as a result of Mary trying to ride "away" from the barrel, rather than hustle through the turn and continuing to go passed them. Michelle- Michelle, as a first time qualifier and on a horse who is relatively young and unseasoned made a very wise decision in the first go and made a super smooth, correct run that allowed both she and Slick a ton of confidence, which they have been building on run by run. Kaley- I was a bit concerned after the First round for Kaley. Things seem to have righted themselves in the left turns however. The one thing that I'm concerned about is that lean at the 2nd barrel that she's been displaying this week. Thankfully, it hasn't caught with her.... yet. Taylor- What a fun and exciting team this is! I think the couple of simple mistakes that caught her in the first two rounds can be attributed to "jitters" more than anything. She seems to be riding aggressively, sitting square and keeping her focus now. Christy- I feel for Christy. I think we all expected Movin' to maybe take more of a shine to this pen than she has. Although, I'm not really sure why. I fell in love with this mare watching her dominate on BIG patterns and this is anything but. I feel like Christy has made some very wise decisions and is setting herself and Movin up for some great runs to be had in the T&M over the years to come. Fallon- BabyFlo is a super tricky mare to run. She also doesn't have a whole lot of handle to work with. I'd love to see Fallon get two handed leaving the 2nd barrel and really drive for a spot deeper down the pen, like maybe the heeling box! Sabrina- I feel like Sabrina has been dealing with it all rather well. If she could get a finish on the first barrel, thus a better approach/entry to the 2nd, she'd be super solid in the rounds. Brittany- I was super glad to see Britt get on Teddy. I think from here on out, we'll see the sorts of runs that we did from this team last night. Lisa- Louie seemed to me to be lacking his trademark fluidity through his body in the turns in the first couple of rounds. He seems to be softening up now. As always, Lisa has given him a great ride. This team almost always nail their patterns and I don't expect that to change anytime soon. Sydni- I don't blame Syd for switching to Clancy, but I'd for sure like to see her get back on the mare. Not sure when, or why Clancy was switched to the left, but it appears to me as though he keeps wanting to fade back over to the left barrel after turning his second, which is really eroding his times. Jane- I like the pairing of Jane and Blackie. They seem to have sorted out the resistance they were fighting at the third barrel in the first couple of rounds. I think they've been laying down consistent runs and foresee them doing well in the average. Trula- I feel like Worm just keeps planting that inside hind harder and harder with each go. Trula's going to need to do some work at free-ing that sucker up if she plans to get back into the game. Shada- Dial It seems to be finding his groove inside the T&M. Now that he knows where the first barrel is, I think we'll continue to see runs like they had last night. He's never been the most shapey, or round sort and his stiffer style might be causing him to bounce out of the ground a bit, thus slowing their times, but I applaud the steady progress that they have been making. Jean- Zan is working well, but his straighter approach to the barrels makes maneuvering through the pattern at the T&M even more difficult. I think Jean has done a commendable job of trying to make the best of it.

THIS!  I had this exact thought the other day but did not dare voice it on here since everyone was so touchy when I thought of it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned...but last night when Taylor J and Bo turned the third barrel, when she reaches for the over and under, or whip or whatever she used, she was actually with out reins for about 3 strides at Mach 5!!!  Talk about trust.  If you slow it down you can see it didn't phase her, the rein stayed pretty much in place, and she reached for it, missed and reached for it again up on his neck.  HOLY COW, that was not only trust, but skill and confidence.  This is a very exciting NFR!!!

Taylor has the possibilities of becoming the next Charmayne.. she has more talent and confidence .. not to mention being SUPER mounted.. and makes the most of it.  LOVE watching her come up the alley and then make her run.. she is sure nuff a hand.and ranks right there with Sherry and Lisa .. wish them all luck because they have all worked hard but love raw talent in humans and horses.  Impressed with Shada too.. not easy to be in the spotlight because of hubby and expections so high.. she is doing so good..

I know what you mean .. I was just telling someone how much I miss watching Martha - she'll never be replaced but between Bo & Superfly I think I have my two favorite horses to watch.  And every interview with Taylor I watch I like her more & more.. I secretly just want to be her and Sherry's BFF's
Also, I LOVE watching Bo come up the ally - he is so focused. Louie comies in there cool too, like he's thinking "lemme in there, I got work to do"

This is by far the most exciting and interesting NFR I've seen so far.  On any given night, there's no way I would feel comfortable predicting the outcome.  It seems like I've learned more too.
One thing that really impressed me about Taylor and Bo is how she just eases him into the alley on a loose rein and he seems so relaxed and confident....no fighting, no rearing, no twirling around.....just a team getting ready to go to work.

And he's so young.  There was an interview with her after a futurity & she said at times it takes her & her mother together to get him saddled because he can be quite a handful.  He walks in there like a veteran & I'm so envious.  What an amazing horse.

I also can't whip with my left hand and am frequently without reins as my lefty runs home. I love watching Taylor & Bo run......they have gotten things lined out after hitting barrels the first two nights and it is making every round must see TV. Even our county commissioners were asking me about the horse that broke the arena record today!

Maybe I'm wrong here, but after watching him a few times now, one thing that stands out compared to other real fast runners at the T&M is that he actually looks like he's not really that hard to ride.  THEY make it look easy....like that's the way it's supposed to be.  Now I know it has to be hard as heck to sit a horse with that kind of speed and agility, but because everything seems so correct, and efficient, it actually looks almost easy.  No wasted motion, no flailing around trying to stay in the saddle, no fighting in the alley, no reining off, no acrobatics.....just a very smooth fun run the way it's supposed to be.

My brother was there last night sitting 9 rows up from the 3rd barrel.  He said Bo didn't look that fast because he makes it look easy.  Most of the questions I asked him he didn't have an answer for.  He said I was lucky he even stuck around to watch the "can chasers" because he had to pee.

when things happen that quick  having the presence of mind to stay out of the way and knowing when to help and how much to help is a way harder ride for most people.

When you get to thinking about it, many times when someone makes really exceptionally fast runs, people are saying, "It didn't seem that fast...."  but it was!   A lot of the great ones are like that.  The really good riders are the ones you hardly even notice during a run.  They are sort of along for the ride, or like an extra hump on the horse's back.  If you watch Lisa Lockhart and Louie, their runs are the same almost every time....it's almost boring, because it's always the same and always excellent.

Okay. So, I'm doing this on my little warm back up breaks throughout the day while watching particular horses in the Juvi, so I'll be doing this in order that they ran, instead of how they placed.

Fallon- Everyone keeps talking about Fallon putting the blinkers on BabyFlo. That may have been smart on Fallon's behalf and it may well have been largely beneficial. What I want to note about this run is that Fallon sat more squarely at both the 2nd and third barrels. Even moreso than that, for the first time, Fallon actually picked her outside rein up about 2 strides from the third barrel and lead off with it a bit, not enough to say that she reined off, but enough to make sure that she kept her moving forward a bit. This is the sort of run that we saw in the first round and then sort that I expected to see from this pair.

Christy- Movin' is really seeming to have settled into the confines of the T&M. Christy is doing a tremendous job of giving her a positive ride and placing her where she needs to be. Great ride at the 2nd barrel last night. She very softly picked that shoulder back up and squared her just enough to allow for a beautiful turn without getting in her way and impeding her forward momentum.

Michelle- I was very glad to see come in and ride the first barrel just as aggressively as she had all week. It can be hard to leave a downed barrel out of your mind, but she did a great job of it. I feel like Slick has been getting just a bit shorter going across the pen each night and last night, Michelle really lead him off with that outside rein. At the same time, she tipped her head and looked at the barrel ever so slightly. That was all the encouragement Slick needed. By having already tipped her weight to the inside, when Slick dove in, things got a little out of sorts. Michelle's ability to hustle up and get back centered was vital in this run. She got back in the middle and had a great third barrel. I have no doubt that they will get their issues sorted out and be back on track.

Mary- Mary is back to showing the form that made her such a dominant force last year. Latte was again, a bit short at the third. Had Mary not stayed so square and held her inside shoulder, that barrel would have been on the ground. Hopefully, she can convince him to stay running just one stride further down the pen tonight.

Sherry- As usual Sherry did a tremendous job of riding last night. Sherry got ahold of that outside rein even a bit sooner than she has in previous rounds at the second barrel. Having to pull Stingray a bit out of position is causing for that second barrel to not be quite as snappy as usual, which is causing for her to maybe not clock as well as she might. That being said, I expect that Sherry will continue to manage her runs for the next few nights and may well win not only the World, but the average, as well.

Trula- I was so glad to see Trula change something up and get back in the groove! I feel like the bit change allowed for her to handle Worm a whole lot more tonight. It also allowed Worm to run a bit more free. There will definitely be those who will crucify Trula for reining off and handling her horse so much, but the proof is in the pudding. After a few rough rounds, I certainly can't blame her for doing what she needed to in order to start leaving them up again. In situations such as this, you sometimes have to forego correctness. That's exactly what Trula did and I'm super glad to see it!

Sydni- I would love to see Sydni use her hand just a bit lower at the first barrel. Doing so would bring that outside rein into contact with his neck and would help stabilize his hip a bit. Clancy's hip swinging out as they exit the first is eroding their line to the 2nd. Getting that straighter exit would allow Sydni to puch him a stride deeper into that second barrel. As it is, I don't feel as though Clancy is shouldering, he's just not in position to turn where he needs to. I feel like so many "new" things are happening for this pair and the T&M is unforgiving enough as it is, but certainly a very tough venue in which to try new things. I hope they get them sorted out.

Shada- This team just needs to get that third barrel figured out. This was definitely a better third barrel than Round 5, but it still cost them a bunch. If the draw reins didn't come out in practice, they still should. If they have, I would sure love to see Shada kick in the afterburners and make that sucker RUN to the third. He may not turn it pretty, but right now, he's hanging up something bad. On another note, I wish the cameras had panned away from Trevor last night.

Jean- I would love to see Jean get Zan moved about 5 feet further to the right when running to the 2nd barrel. This pen just will not allow for one to run so straight to them and move at the last stride, or two. This duo has been so consistent, it's just that pesky approach that is causing that barrel to continue to come down.

Jane- I was very glad to see Jane back on Blackie tonight. Her first and second barrels have been so consistent on this horse this week. Jane went to the horn just a bit soon and Blackie responded. Jane lifted that inside rein to try and pick him back off, but it just tipped his nose and brought him in even tighter. Jane will ride much more aggressively to the third tonight, for sure.

Lisa- There's just not much to be said about this pair. Great turns, great riding, great responses from Louie, as always.

Taylor- Taylor does a tremendous job of riding a horse with a more stiff, rollback style. She makes it look so super effortless, even though if you truly watch her, she rides so aggressively with her seat and core, keeping Bo moving all the way through the turns, so that he doesn't snap back on top of the barrels. Tremendous run!

Kaley- Cowboy just never seems to falter. That lean of Kaley's gave me a good scare at the third tonight and it definitely hun Cowboy up a bit at the 2nd. I think we'll keep seeing runs like this all week.

Brittany- I was so super glad to see Brittany bust SuperFly out! He handled everything like a seasoned pro. Brittany rode him more squarely than anything she has sat on all week and boy, did this team work! I bet we see her stay on him for the rest of the NFR.

Sabrina- I really like this horse! Very nice style and seems to just really want to work. That run should give Sabrina some confidence to come back in on Uno and send her a whole lot harder. I feel like this team could do very well in the next few rounds.

This was such an exciting round, for more reasons than just Taylor's amazing run. So many fun changes were made in Round 6! Headache, or not, I'll be glued to a spot right in front of the TV to see how tonight unfolds!

Do you think it is possible with the blinkers on that BabyFlo let Fallon handle her more so therefore Fallon could sit more squarely instead of having to over ride and over adjust by any chance?
