Love the Hancock horses. Athletic and good all around horses. My aunt had a Hancock bred Stud that produced amazing babies. Great in the branding pen and as rope horses and barrel horses. One mare is Hancock on one side Sugar Vandy on the other and a phenomenal athlete.

LP22654 - 2014-04-08 2:25 PM Someone please tell me more about the Playgun horses. I just got a GD of him.
Watch for the Fiestas Gotta Gun babies to hit the barrel pen.  Have a feeling they are going to be impressive.

What do you guys think of this mare? I personally prefer 100% all run, or something barrel bred with run on the bottom (like Frenchmans Guy in the pedigree out of a running bred mare). Anywho, we have this mare at the house and she's cute, definitely has a STOP.

My breeding program through the last twenty years has evolved from straight race breeds to race/cow cross to straight cowbreds. While I loved to watch the little straight run colts stretch their legs and play, they lacked any noticeable amount of common sense for everyday occurrences like shots, worming, halter breaking and loading in the trailer. However, they were fast, just frustrating sometimes. The crossbreds were a little more sensible, but not that much, probably due to the running bred mares as mothers, even though they were all old track horses and easy to handle. When I was not running barrels much anymore, i decided to sell the running breds and only keep the cowbreds, the majority of which were NCHA money winners. They are daughters of Miss N Cash, Docs Hickory, Tanquery Gin, Haidas Little Pep, High Brow Hickory, and Colonel Freckles granddaughters. They are bred to my old son of Freckles Playboy. Given that I am probably biased, I have never had such good looking, good minded, athletic, quick, friendly, joyful, fun to watch colts in my life. They might not be able to outrun some of the straight runs on a straight away, but I can guarantee they will outmaneuver them in tighter spaces, and you will have a horse that you can do more things on than just run barrels. In the big picture of things, most barrel racers are not going to run in the 1D, which is why we have at least 3 more D's. My opinion is that a good quick cow bred will give the average barrel racer more joy and options than a straight run, be easier to train, and still get you to the pay window.

I love my Zan Parr Bar horses. I have two of them. That being said...we may lack a little extra run on the straightaways but I've got lots of turn :)

Has anyone ever ran a Hollywood Dun It horse and been successful? I have a 4 year old that was a reining reject b/c he was too long strided that I just put in training for 30 days. He's still a little immature, but very talented. He's very willing and laid back..almost too lazy :)  I am really loving the cow bred.

I don't think you could get a more serious "barrel type" cow line.

I was running a daughter of Dun It With A Whiz by Hollywood Dun It I only have about 30 runs on her but she was running 1D times in bigger races here 100 plus horses. She is so athletic and pretty fast for a short squatty bodied mare. She can run a standard but excels at a slightly smaller set. She got hurt but I think she was going to be fairly tough little horse, we ran less than .5 off some nice circuit and pro horses . She is being bred to a son of Special Leader now since I can't figure out what is wrong with her. I would ride another.

That is awesome news for me!!
 Thank you for posting this.
I just bought a Paddys son and love him.
Was wondering if he might cross over into the barrel pen.

Some friends of mine are sure doing well on the Colonel Freckles horses. Not sure how far back he is on their horses papers though.

I got my first cutting bred colt started and am pretty pleased with him. He is double bred Docs Prescription on top with Peppy San Badger, Dry Doc and Mr Gun Smoke on the bottom. All are within 3 generations on his papers. He has a nice gas pedal and a lot of brains, natural when it comes to working off leg pressure and just a super nice colt in general. Big boned but on the short side... slow grower for sure! I would love to get my hands on another horse with these lines but with some running bred lines mixed in for height. Not sure I like being that close to the ground when riding lol

Leo Goldseeker Bars bloodlines have done well...  Regers He Might & Catman Goldseeker are 2 that came outta those bloodlines & their offspring have REALLY been successful in barrel pen.  I know Catman has been darn successful himself in the barrel pen.

Awesome thread. I was just telling someone the other day how my two best horses are more cow/performance bred.

The top pedigree is the mare I just started riding, one heck of an athletic, quick-footed, barrel hunting, free running fool!!!! So smooth and fun to ride.

And the 2nd one is my good ole faithful super consistant gelding

One by Sweet Little Pepto out of a Highbrow Cat mare made the finals at Diamonds and Dirt last weekend. Β

Does anyone know if this was in the open or the futurity?

Im guessing the futurity...
