HotbearLVR - 2014-04-28 4:50 PM Liberals secretly probably love this guy.  They love it when this country is divided by racism.....even when they themselves are the perpetrators.

He is a Democrat.  Big contributor.

Really? It didn't know that. I wonder if Finney knew?

Donald Sterling Is a Registered Republican

Does it really matter whether racist LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling is a registered Democrat? Or a Republican? Or a member of the Pirate Party of Russia?
Well, according to multiple conservative media outlets, yes, it does matter. On Sunday, National Review ran a blog post originally titled, "Racist Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Is a Democrat." The post breathlessly noted a handful of contributions he made in the early 1990s to Democratic politicians, including California politician Gray Davis and Sen. Bill Bradley, who had played in the NBA. (Sterling has owned his NBA team since the early 1980s.) The headline has since been changed to "Racist Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Has Only Contributed to Democrats," with an update reading, "his official party affiliation is not known." Still, the Donald-Sterling-Is-a-Democrat meme already took hold within right-wing media:
"Report: Clippers Owner Caught In Racist Rant Is A Democratic Donor" — Fox Nation.
"NBA Sterling is a Democrat..." — Matt Drudge.
"Race Hate Spewing Clippers Owner Is Democratic Donor" — the Daily Caller.
"Media Ignoring Dem Donations of LA Clippers' Owner, Allegedly Caught on Tape in Race-Based Rant" — NewsBusters.
"LA Clippers Owner Donald Sterling is a Racist Democrat" — the Tea Party News Network.
Politico piggy-backed on this flood of Sterling-triggered liberal-shaming with a softer headline: "Donald Sterling made donations to Dems."
Not that Sterling's broader political views or party affiliation have much to do with the controversy over his insanely racist comments, but here's a news flash for those conservatives eager to bring up the topic: He's a Republican.
On Sunday, Michael Hiltzik, a Los Angeles Times columnist, tweeted that local voter records show Sterling to be a registered Republican "since 1998." We followed up on that, and a search of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's website for Sterling's name, date of birth, and address confirmed that he's registered as a Republican:

HotbearLVR - 2014-04-28 4:43 PM I must be slipping in my old age.  This saga is about as captivating as watching flies fornicate.  Sounds like an old man who needs an oil change and a few extra zerks.
The guy is a racist jerk but when is it OK to decide someone  cannot be in business because  of their crappy personality??? Shouldn't the free market give the guy his just dues??  When did it become OK to force someone out because noone likes them even though they have not broken any laws/rules/contracts???  That is what bugs me. What about all the athletes who have commited crimes but are still being paid millions???
I agree with everything you just said but there is one caveate.  The NBA franchises have a network of revenue sharing.  If his revenues go down, so do the revenues of the others.  If they do nothing, it also hurts the brand image of the NBA.  That affects them all.

They'll have to do something to satisfy the crowd's cries for blood but they'll also be very careful. They don't want to set a precedent of stripping franchises for saying something stupid in a private setting.  It would put each of them at risk of the same.

This is none of the NBA's business.  We should leave it to the NSA to sort it out.  We need to have more monitoring.  If someone misbehaves, they will have to answer to the IRS.

I can think of a number of Republicans who are/were as liberal as any Democrat.  That's one big difference between the GOP and the Dems.  All Democrat politicians on the national level are liberal, without exception.  The Republicans have their own liberal vermin infestations.

Nevertooold - 2014-04-27 6:20 PM So do you think the NAACP has decided not to give Sterling his Lifetime Achievement Award that he was suppose to get in May? Will they ask him to return the one they gave him in 2009?

That would be correct..........and yes they want the other one back too..............

But this is okay................
Black people are the fathers and mothers of civilization, white men are the devil, the Christian god is nothing more than a ghost and only a small percentage of people understand the world.
These are just some of the beliefs behind the bling — the gaudy Five Percent Nation medallions worn by Jay Z and Carmelo Anthony.

Sterling has been a racist bigot for year and years. These latest comments, while disgusting, are pretty tame for him. The NBA has always looked the other way. Even when the DOJ was involved the NBA did not step in.

Why would that be? I would guess they have about $1.7 billion reasons.

It's embarassing to watch them backtrack now.

Well he is a filthy stupid Republican.  Filthy for harboring hatred and stupid since he makes his fortune off the very culture he "hates"

Instead of making this about "That typical Republican" or "That Liberal will love this."   How about we just call him out as a PIG?  That's a term that will fit and please both sides.

Before you start feeling sorry for the old geezer's wife...she's a piece of work herself.  In some of the lawsuits he has faced for housing discriminarion...his lovely bride had posed as a government housing inspector to gain access to the homes.  So I'd say her moral compass is a bit off as well.

The NBA is really limited on what they can do to "punish" the old fossil.  They can't take away the team or force him to sell...they can't fine him more than 1 million  (Dude is worth nearly 2 billion so he'd hardly miss it).  About all they can do is suspend him from attending the games or having contact with the team/organization. And even then I think there are limits on the time frame.

And rememer...this is all based on an audio recording of a personal conversation...it's not admisible in court as he did not consent to being taped...and this guy has the resources to fight and sue over anything he pleases.  The NBA commissioner is well aware of all of that.

Look...his comments and likely his very personality is repugnant to most folks.  But...he committed no crime and he is being vilified.  And yet there are players in the league that have committed far more atrocious acts.  Take Kobe Bryant for example...(case was dropped by the rape accuser, but he settled out of court with her and apologised...and bought his wife a big ole rock to say he was sorry) Or Ruben Patterson of the Trailblazers...Convicted of raping his kid's young baby sitter...assault, and felony domestic abuse. Ron Artest...assaulted a fan in the stands...starved a dog (and had it seized from his residence)...so he changed his name to Meta World Peace and now does adverts for PETA.
Then there's Chris Webber...cops pulled him over for driving in every lane of the freeway in Maryland he did not like it. So he assaulted them and refused to take any test for influence. The police found weed in his car and he was convicted of driving under the influence. C-Webb was also convicted of contempt of court when he lied to the grand jury about accepting illegal payments at Michigan when he was in college. Dennis Rodman, convicted of Spousal battery...and generally being a complete nut job.

And those are just examples I could come up with easily of well known high paid NBA ballers.  There are many more with rap sheets.  And nearly all of them continued to make millions...sell jerseys to kids and keep their corporate sponsors.  Why?  Fans have short memories and living the "gangsta" life is just "keepin it Real".  But you have a rich old white guy making racist stupid comments...and it's time to run him out of town on a rail.  This same righ old fart bought a failing team and turned it back into a money machine raining down on those now mortally offended ball players.

eh...I say he is a morally bankrupt human being...but then...so are some of the folks yelling the loudest for his head.  I say it's a wash.
