Location: 31 lengths farms | Gads!!! No!! I do not, though I'm certain they were looked at at the first vet visit. And yes, the blood was we believe from the bladder stone moving about when she ran about or was ridden. She has the one stone in the uretor on the left side as well as 2 small stones in that kidney, right kidney was clear.
Forgot what else you asked about...she hasn't passed blood in her urine again since we started her on the herbs except one time after I had just been feeding it to her over her hay when she got tired of having it syringed to her and when I saw the blood in the urine we we back to syringing it.
We, the vets and I feel that it was a "perfect storm" for her. She was injured 3 years ago, was put on Equioxx and then Previcoxx long term due to a fractured patella, then last year grass hay was near impossible to get around here with the fact we didnt' get any rain and the cattle ranchers bought everything they could get their hands on. The only hay that was available that wasn't total crap was alfalfa and unfortunately that is what we fed for most of the year starting in about October last year until her diagnosis. We all believe she has already started a stone and that just kicked the formation into high gear.
Edited to add, the urine, especially after she has a bio scan treatment is most normally yellow rather than clear which I know is a good sign, or a better sign. The plan is to go back at the end of September, which will be about 6 months of herbs and then about 3 months of essential oils and bio scan treatments, have blood drawn again as well as a follow up ultrasound on kidneys and bladder.

Location: 31 lengths farms | Can I get a few prayers for her, everything is status quo but I'm having to leave town for a few days for a funeral and I'm having a lot of anxiety about being gone. I usually am any way, its just more so than usual due to her issues. I have a family friend feeding who is willing to put her herbs in her grain for me which I truly appreciate, normally I give it to her that way one time a day and the other time she gets them syringed. We've had to do 2 days in her feed but not this many days in row and I'm just a bit apprehensive. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Nothing really. I was gone for 5 days for my fiancΓ©'s dad's funeral, the neighbor fed for me so the horses had to stay in their pens. Thankfully the neighbor is an animal lover if not a horse owner so was willing to make sure that CC got her herbs everyday, though we did just mix them into a few cups of her Timothy Pellets. An aquaintance thru BHW did Reiki on her for me while I was gone, more or less a spiritual healing or life force energy. I came home to 3 bright eyed red horses who were wanting to run and play in their respective fields.
The only other thing that has changed is that we have decided to put off the follow up ultrasound which we had planned for the end of September and move it to the end of October. My fiancΓ© will be gone mid September thru mid October, he takes his "vacation" every year and helps a family friend in their walnut huller. As long as CC continues to act, look, and display that she is feeling good I don't think the 30 days will hurt us any. We will take her to UC Davis, have the ultrasound on her kidneys and bladder, depending on how those come back we will go forward with the plan to have the bladder stone removed thru laser lithrotripsy. It is a little trickier to do that way, but the healing time is much shorter and easier on them. CC just isn't a good candidate for abdominal surgery, she is an EPIC FAIL at standing quietly anywhere let alone a stall for months at a time.
And Leo...thank you for asking, I appreciate it.

Your welcome :) I was wondering how your girl was doing when you were gone.
Do they not think she will pass the stones on her own? |

Location: 31 lengths farms | No, she had a stone stuck in the left uretor, along with the two smaller stones in the kidney and the large bladder stone. The bladder stone can be possibly removed vaginally via laser. They could posibbly get to the one in the uretor, but that surgery tends to only work in dogs because of the added length of the uretor in horses, also it would take multiple attempts to get to that one with each attempt @$5K. If I had the money she'd be there for sure. We didn't do the bladder stone yet because with the issue of the kidney it was hard to spend 1800 in a surgery that was really at that time merely a symptom of the real issue.
I rode her last night, she was feeling really good so I let her roll a little thru a pattern, she scorched it. Cooled her out, let her roll and hung out till she urinated. Clear of blood:). So hopefully the herbs , essential oils and bioscan will have diminished the size of stones and the function of the kidneys . |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Hair analysis was done again here a week or so ago. CC's immune and lymph systems are much better, at this point she can go off of those herbs, she can go to having the kidney herbs once a day instead of 2x, though we are adding a product called Norweguin (spelling) it isn't a herb but is for the bladder... |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Sunday I rode and she felt good while I was riding but did pass some blood in her urine after we were done which I hadn't seen since May at all. Not sure if its a set back or if she is in the process of passing a stone but thinking I will either get off of her entirely or just walk her on the rides until the appointment at UCD at the end of October. After she urinated she went over and went right back to eating like nothing was wrong and when I was done riding the other two horses and turned everyone back out for the afternoon she took off in her usual extended trot across the field after some turkeys, she used to be terrified of the turkeys but she has learned from my other mare that if you chase them they run from you so she thinks that is the coolest thing ever. Other than chasing squirrels around the oak tree that is...She has been eating normally and no temperature since the incident on Sunday. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | The post about God Intervening by Ladyjockey made me realize I hadn't posted on here in a while...so here it is.
After the incident when CC passed blood I purchased an essential oil blend from a board buddy who's mare also has kidney stones and have CC on that also. I decided to go ahead and put some short easy rides on her after she had been on the product for about a week because she gets depressed when she isn't being ridden and doesn't eat well. I also put her on a product called Novequin that is a pre- and probiotic. CC has gained weight on this combination and hasn't passed any blood either.
The reason the post by Ladyjockey spurred this is I specifically remember a conversation with God I had not only when CC fractured her patella and I prayed to God that I would never ask for anything from Him ever again if my mare could be sound enough just to be a pasture pet. I know He heard me, its the only thing that explains the fact not only did she come sound again, but sound enough again to ride her and run again. Then when I got the news from the Vets that she had kidney stones and there was nothing they could do for her complete panic set in. We were in the truck headed to have lunch, I called my regular Vet to ask him more information or at least a glimmer of hope and got basically more bad news. DAve had to pull over because I thought I was going to throw up, Dave took over the phone call for me while I got out to get some fresh air. I was crying so hard that I could barely breathe, walking aimlessly down a sidewalk in a town I do not know and suddenly absolute Peace came over me. I was standing outside a Church... I remember suddenly thinking "God did not save her the first time only to lose her to something like this...you must find the answer. Stop crying, breathe and start searching." I went back to the truck and told Dave "Forget lunch, lets go get CC. We want to go home and get better." |

I have been thinking about you and your mare lately. Thank you for the post. God has answered your prayers. |

Location: CA | I get the fear and panic thing. I love when God gently reminds you of those things you already know.
My mare is doing pretty well, I have been riding her and not seeing any issues to date. I am thinking I may be able to put a couple of runs on her this winter and just see how she is doing. I am hoping your mare is improving. :) |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Thank you all for hanging with me and your prayers and insights on this journey...I truly hope it is one that continues for years and years to come. I knew from the beginning that CC was put in my life to change it. I thought it was the search for true horsemanship that she was bringing to me, turns out it was that and a deeper spiritual connection. I have no doubt in my mind that a Guardian Angel looked out over both of us in 2011 when she fractured her patella and again when she was attacked by the mountain lion in 2012. Hope we havent' exhausted our Angels wings :-) |

Location: 31 lengths farms | CC will be going in the week of the 17th it looks like for a follow up ultrasound on the kidneys. If her kidneys have held from 7 months ago or , please God, improved then the vet has agreed to try the laser lithrotripsy on the bladder stone. I think I'm more terrified this time around, last time ignorance was bliss!!!! I now we all feel this way about our amazing animals and I appreciate those of you that took the time to if not respond on this topic, at least kept us in your thoughts. I know your prayers and CC grit and heart have gotten us this far and I thank you for it!!!! |

Location: 31 lengths farms | Ultrasound is scheduled for Tuesday the 18th and then the lithrotripsy tentatively for the next day. I need the kidney's to have held their ground and the laser to work on her stone in her bladder. If you could all just say a prayer for her I'd appreciate it.... |
