Location: Texas | Yes the factors that control pigment dispersion aren't genetic, they are "epigenetic." it's the same reason why clones don't have the exact same white markings. |

Location: Washington. (The DRY side.) | If they were identical, wouldn't they be the same color? (Not talking about white markings, I'm talking aobut body color.) They look 2 different colors in the pics. |

| Swannranch - 2015-04-15 1:20 PM ranlyn1 - 2015-04-15 12:37 PM Vet said identical. 2 sacs, but one placenta. I did not quite understand, as I thought identical would look the same, like human identical twins, but these look different. So being identical, the vet didn't miss it. I would think that at the very early stages it would appear as 1 foal. Identical the egg splits. I doubt you could abort 1 of identical either. . . as they share the plecenta, so choices would only have been to abort both or go with it. God knew they were perfect, so he didn't tell anyone :) What an amazing blessing!!!!! This is soooooooo cool.as I understand it, identical in animals is different because the color genes are last and are affected by many external influences... position, temp stuff like that. Yes, it would have had to be a neither or both choice. The genes are the same, the expression is slightly different, so that's why they don't look exactly the same.
Congrats on healthy twins!!! You have an extreme rarity with them both being good size AND healthy! I hope they continue to do well. You have been doubly blessed!

| Thank you all ! So glad someone else feels like they are true little miracles. We are blessed they were normal and that Mom made it too. I am trying to get my daughter to post some new pics, when we can get them taken. They are really filling out. Still don't know what color they will be. But whatever they are loved. |
