Not that I know of .... even if they are part of a personal business, you don't pay taxes on every asset of the business ... You don't pay taxes on every cow, only what she produces IF you sell it. If you don't sell it, no income so no taxes. That's my understanding. |

I guess it depends on the state. I worked for a dairy farmer that moved out of California because they taxed him quarterly on everything. The cows, grain bins, grain IN the bins, home, barn, ect..ect |

Livestock DOES get taxed in many states as a yearly "personal property tax"....Arkansas & MIssouri are two that I do know that tax them, along with trailers, tractors, etc.....but on the other hand property tax is really low. |

I think we pay $25 a horse on ours. I'm always a smart *** and say I'm going to leave off a horse and see if they drive around counting horses in people's pastures |

| If they are not in agreement, I would expect the owner to argue that appraisal figure. That is a nice mare but 700,000? Regardless, my heart breaks for Christy knowing she made that mare what she is. I guess she was lucky to get to ride her so many years but this is why I would never want to be competing at that level on a horse I do not own. |
