Not a new virus. It has been around for sometime. Prob had lots of cases in the US in the past, but was never really tested for at the DR office. When was the last time they tested you for the cor. virus when you went in sick? They swabbed for the flu and if that was negative they said you must have a cold...... Now they are testing more, so of course, it will show up more. All of the stats I have seen do not put it anywhere near the flu, measles, or the hundreds of other common diseases we have here in terms of spreadability, death rate, ect.
On the up side....airline tickets are cheap right now.
Yes...you are correct.....the Corona Virus HAS been around for awhile but just like the regular flu, there are different strains of it! That is why there is a "new" flu vaccine every year ...... However, this strain of the Corona Virus is more deadly and there is NO vaccine! I would rather be safe than sorry ......
I should have clarify it better, Its a NEW stran of Covonavirus thats very dangerous and the doctors dont know much about it yet. The vaccine could take up a year or more to make and thats going to be a long year. So hopefully it wont take that long, Thank you Norma for pointing that out Flying and taking a Cruise is the last thing I would want to do, A friend of ours job is to do a whole lot of flying to get to jobs and she's grounded for the next 3 weeks, the company she works for will not send any of their people out to keep them out of harms ways the best they can. Shes going stir crazy thou, shes so use to going and going she dont know what to do with herself. She loves flying out to these new places. |

| Just read a google news story about an "employee" of a middle school in GA testing positive for the virus, they sent home the kids and closed down the school, now trying to track all who was in contact with this employee, didnt say if it was a teacher or not. All the hysteria the media is causing by showing barren grocery store shelves and people fist fighting over toilet paper .... I went to Wally world today and everything is totally fine, no shortages of anything. And I was at another major grocery chain the other day and all was fine. I saw something the other day about that animated show, "The Simpsons" it's been said everything they have shown has come to fruition.. including this virus from China... very interesting! I need to find the article. Sure makes ya wonder.... |

A coworkers sister works in Admin for Fulton County Schools. It was a person who was a substitute teacher. They had been to 3 different schools. They (the school district) knew if they didn't take action the hysteria would build. Atlanta is one of the biggest international airports in the US, of course there is going to be people who have it. Of course if you are compromised in your health, don't go out as much if you are worried. To the rest of the people, use commonsense and wash your hands. Follow basic hygiene rules. They work. |

Geez hopefully nothing will come of it. Thanks for the information. My son had cancer and has 1 kidney, we were told by his team of drs to always use extra precautions with him as his immune system is compromised but hes been in remission. Hes really the only reason I'm worried about this or any of us getting sick and exposing him. It scares me to death really. |

Ummm... You literally can't find toilet paper or lysol wipes or bleach here where I live in Canada. You have to go to 4 or so different stores if you actually need any of the above prodcuts. The panic is true. |

There is a 5 per customer limit on disinfectants & soaps, but thats it

And the hysteria is not necessary... preparedness is necessary but not panic for crying out loud. I'm sorry you are having to deal with those shortages like that. I personally have not run into it around here. I just returned from my hair salon and my girl was telling me that a stylist there just got back from a cruise, they asked her to please stay home for a few weeks, they cannot make her, but she is staying away for a few weeks just to be safe. I have a legit question, for the people that have tested positive for it, how are they being treated? Antibiotics, or ?? Is this a flu like virus that just needs to run its course... if anyone knows and wants to share, thatd be great! Are the people that tested positive early on better now? |

| Of course there's more flu deaths. There's abundantly more cases of the flu. It's the mortality rate of the corona virus if someone does happen to get it that's the issue. I've heard anywhere from 2-3%. Versus the flu, which is something like 0.5-1% (and no, I haven't verified those percentages exactly but it's something like that). This is essentially a viral pneumonia. I know we keep hearing to wash your hands, don't touch your face if you haven't washed your hands, and use hand sanitizer when you can't wash your hands. In other words, what you should be doing to prevent getting sick anyway. I work in the veterinary industry and we already have surgical N95 masks on allocation because people are panicking. What's gonna happen when we run out on the human and veterinary side? We need these masks in the medical industry! |

You are a teacher correct? In California? Have the schools sent out any precautions about coronavirus? Several schools around here have issued notices, even though its spring break they are worried about when kids returned from traveling around which I know several are doing despite the warnings. |

The last reliable numbers I heard were based on the cruise ship with all those people on it. .85% Less than one percent died. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebiLwwgSmK0 |

I tried to check out the CDC website you would think it would be easier to find information. Yep! Just yesterday. Our district has canceled all field trips, large gatherings on campus such as pep rally's , dances , prom, assemblies. Etc. online school is being put into place and tested should it come to that. |
