I don't need any weight or anything else. I just want some grain or supplement to increase energy.

I use Alfalfa,  But if you want to use a pelleted feed , then ADM's Power Glo does good for me.

Thank you. He's currently on 15 pounds alfalfa, 10 pounds Bermuda and a coffee can of beet pulp.

Ultium is pretty high calorie. It makes my boy hop to. Maybe give him/her a pound or two.

I'm wondering this same thing. I have a futurity colt on the lazy side. Is there something to feed her to make her fire a little more?

not firing might not only be a feed issue but an exercise issue. Poor conditioning or fitness combined with too much non-structural carbs ( grains & pellets) will cause a lack of energy. You can also look into mineral and vitamin deficiencies causing the lack of energy instead of restructuring his entire feeding regime which may cause more problems than it fixes. Just something to think about.

It is mainly for Ruger. But Boo could have a little more pep too. Boo is Back in conditioning mode. Ruger is more fit than Boo but he's western pleasure bred so I don't expect too much from him.

What oils seem to work. I won't feed corn oil due to the risk of increased inflammation.

Rice bran meal over oil is good for energy. Oil will put more weight on one. Rice bran has a lot of the minerals and vitamins that are good for them too.

Exaclty.....oats, barley, and corn increase blood glycogen and can be used as a natural "hop" when not fed daily. We feed a grain that has no oats or barley for that reason, so we can use an oat as a hop and only give it a few days out from competition.

Another thing you can do to contain the energy for a barrel race is to stall your horse about 2 or 3 days out.  Contain that energy and use the oat/barley to increase blood glycogen starting a couple days out and voila, you have natural energy, but not a hot horse.
