I have a 2009 Duramax. If I tried to give you the full history on this truck in the 10 months I've owned it you would be reading until next Monday. So, I'm looking for someone who may have experienced the same issue as I'm having now, and advice on what you did. No one seems to be able to figure out what's wrong!

2 weeks ago I tried to start it, and it took 5 or 6 tries, then started just fine. Got about 100 feet and it jolted and made a strange sound from the engine, then went into limp mode. Topped out at 15 mph and 1500 RPM. Had it towed in, they said it was throwing a code for a wiring issue. Searched it high and low and found nothing, but it started running again so they sent me on my way.

It struggled to start twice since then, but ran fine. It will sound like it's turning over for a second or two, pause and go black and silent for about a second, then try again. Always starts after a few tries (I hold the key and it goes through this process itself)

Well this morning it did it, then I made it about 1/4 mile and it does the jolt and the engine light comes on, and back down to 15mph. Took it back home and parked it. Have started it twice since this notnin and it starts fine just won't drive. Sounds really "clanky" if that's a word.

I don't want to spend more money on it for them to have no idea what's wrong again and have it happen 2 weeks later. Any ideas I could go in there with if this has happened to someone else?

Could be the ignition switch, could be the fuel pump. Those are my two guesses, have had both go on dodge diesels both with over 500k on them. The ignition switch it would only start some of the time, then shut off. The fuel pump on the other one we still have to cycle it once then start it as it doesn't get enough fuel.

Good luck too many computers to go wrong

Find a good Duramax mechanic. Did it give any other codes?

Nope, no other codes. Haven't had it checked yet this time, I have to wait until Monday to have it towed.

Sorry you've had so many problems with yours. I have a 2004 and it's been great! I had the water pump replaced this fall. It is about 1 in a 1000 that the fuel pump would go out in a dura max. Very rare in this pickup.
Make sure it's not a air bubble in the fuel line, you can do that yourself by pumping fuel into the filter manually with your prime button. Talk to a good diesel mechanic. Go on the web site Chevy duramax, there will be great info. There are several sites that are chat places and there are usually mechanics on there that are duramax savvy. Good luck!

Biggest issue I've had with my Duramax has been my fuel filter. Sounds similar to your problem when I had a sensor on it go bad.

I know that when mine starts acting sort of like what you are describing I see if the button on the filter is soft. If it is, I pump it up and it usually starts.

But I am NOT a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination.

we have a 2008 duramax was a great truck until it hit 100,000 miles and started doing exactly what yours is doing. We have spent 7000.00 on the truck in the last 7 months and have had it to almost 20 different mechanics since it limped across the US. You can PM if you want to know what all we have replaced, but go to limp mode sites on Chevy trucks and you will see that 08,09 and 10 all have a history of this and they DO NOT know why or how to fix it. Good luck

Same problems here.  We had to replace entire wiring harness and it fixed it.

had an '04 with 130k on it and it stayed in the shop more than I kept it on the road. It got traded off.
The last time, it ended up being the whole fuel system going out. I said, I'm not spending anymore money on this pickup and I didn't .had my mechanic clear the codes and went and traded it that day.
It honestly should have been a "new" pickup after all I had done to it.

well, mine was a lemon to begin with.
Chevy never reported all the problems with mine to car fax but the ding-bat salesman left the report on his desk and stepped out. You couldn't get it off the net for my pickup. It was all internal knowledge....... I slid it into my pocket and read it after I left. They wouldn't honor the extended warranty of the injectors until I said, this pickup has had the injectors replaced at 30k, 63k and now needs it done at 101k.
When I called Chevy Corp about all the things I knew about that particular pickup, the gal asked me how I knew so much about it.
A little birdy told me :) Sometimes it's best not to give up your sources

I'm still driving a chevy- just not That one..lol
