Both of my pads are 5+ years old so for christmas I want to buy myself a new one...

My mare is 7 and done growing. She's built downhill. Her saddle fits nicely but on harder rides you can tell the saddle is still causing pressure on her withers, had a saddle fitter tell me its due to a cheaper pad and her being so downhill.

I need a place that does layaway...

What pads help relieve pressure off the withers and does anyone have experience with the Classic Equine Zoombang pads on downhill horses? My local feed store has the all felt one for $160 or something like that. Thicker then i want but looks like a nice pad...

My experience is that you need something with a built up wither area on the downhill horses. I have a brand new one that I will sell if you pm me for more info. As for the zoombang pads, they are real nice, don't think it will really help with your particular issue though. We have also found that before ours was a year old even, it started to compress especially in the wither area and it is the zoombang material that is compressed, not just the felt. Anybody else have this issue. And FYI they wouldn't warranty the pad.

My horse is downhill. Look at the Classic Equine Biofit. It has helped me tremendously.

My fear with a built up pad is her saddle fits.... would it cause issues on her withers if it in turn causes the saddle to be too narrow with the added pad width?

I have zero experience with built up pads.....

Classic equine biofit. They are even good if your saddle fits well, keeps pressure off horses back. i had my horse fitted by my saddle maker, he had been shown at a bunch of three days shows and je dropped some weight on the topline so he got a little back sore as he has a fusing hock and had been injected not long ago, he was not running 100% but not bad, tried different pads and when i tried this pad immediate results pressure gone, price not bad either as compaired to 4 star.

My horse is built down hill but her saddle fits and there is not wholes behind her withers. She has a pretty normal back, its def filled out but not muttun withered or wide backed by any means. Her saddle fits and I use a 3/4" 3000 series wade pad on her, or if I am using the saddle is a little wider I use my zone pad. Personally if I was only going to have 1 pad I would have the wade pad, a plain 3000 series is $183. I also have a saddleright. If a saddle is a little tight I use the saddle right, if its a little wide or I am roping I use the zone, otherwise I use the wade.

The zones are great pads but if I use it with my saddle that fits my horse not the wider one I will have dry spots behind her shoulders. I never have dry spots with the wade, in my experience the wade company has been great to work with and answer question also. If you are a member of barrel racing talk swap on face book there were some zone pads on sale for cheap. $160 is pretty cheap for a new one usually they are over $200.

Thanks everyone! I will have to check into the biofits and wades.. I have to find somewhere that sells them and does layaway as i can not justify laying out that kinda cash all at once on a pad.... Buying hay every chance i get so i dont have to worry about it and payments on a trailer ;)
