I have a 3 year old that was given to me, I broke him from the ground up and started him on the pattern. Before the pattern, we learned lead changes, pivots, flexing, side passing, collection, ect. he's been on the pattern about 30 good days(I don't do the pattern but maybe once or twice a week) and I feel like he's loping a pretty good pattern, but id like some others input on his pattern & what I could do to make him better, or if he's on the right track. I attached a link for him first staring to lope it, & the second of him getting his feet better loping.... any input is appreciated!

The only thing I would say to start with is lope lots and lots and lots of smooth circles. Big circles little circles back to bigger circles and then lope more circles to help him execute his circles and corners more effeciently keeping his feet moving. On the pattern, I wouldnt be trying to turn your barrels tight just yet. Lope circles around your barrels and focus on smooth and keeping his feet moving. They can and will tighten up but you have to give your colt a chance first to master the circles and build his confidence doing so. The only other thing I would say is ride with your feet and legs, not so much the bridle. Smooth it out, and use your inside rein rather then trying to push him with your outside rein. You've done a good job with him so far.

You have done a wonderful job .... now move out of the arena and use the same cues you would barrel racing and just go pasture riding, turn around some trees, jump some logs, leg overs to miss a rock or mud puddle and do some wind sprints and just goof around.

Watch and practice the movements in the video a 1000 times ... each movement is taught separately and then put together as a session ... do not get the turnarounds confused with a rollback and watch Becky's hands and her focused momentum .... including the flying lead changes, cool down and working mind while roping a barrel,, noisy door, gate walk thru etc etc .... all of these movements can be taught out in the pasture ... and used for a lifetime by you and your horse ... ......>>>>>>>> GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN ..... http://youtu.be/UwgdHnbmQFk
