the best thing you can do for yourself is to get to a Good Clinic or two. get a goat and practice practice practice - when goat gets worn out sell it and get another working your ground work every day. do you have videos?

It's hard to say where you can shave time without a few videos. If you can't get to a clinic I would suggest purchasing the video by Kit Gilbert. I think you can still get it from Smith Brothers.

The summer before my freshman year I was tying 12's. I went in tying 8's! It is a very informative video.

The other is practice, practice, practice! In the winter I would set up a light so I could tie in the dark.

AND practice against the clock on the ground. When I started really trying to improve my time I had someone time me from the time I crossed the steak until I raised my hands then I set a goal from there. To increase my hand speed I would sit and tie a goat over and over and have someone time me from the time I grabbed my string until I was done with my wraps.

Good luck!

Go to a Lynn Smith Clinic or purchase her video. Her, as well as her clients' resumes are out of this world.

I would go to a clinic.

But your tie....my friend showed me this and it seems really fast.  You want to really HOOK the first wrap.  And then all you have to do is tie the knot.  Doesn't even look like you're wrapping.  You definitely don't move your arm much.  Just hook and tie.

Tie a ton and be SMOOTH. I went to college with Hayden (she won shawnee, nationals, and little britches all in the same year) my freshman year. Its all about being smooth and no errors. We tie 4-5 goats a day in college. At least 10 times then have to have 3 PERFECT runs in a row before we stop. I think wed have to see a video of you to really help you out. We only get off horses once every like two weeks. Rest of it is all ground work.

THIS! If you're not doing this already. This is what made my ties smoother.

Slower way of doing it: Girl grabs her string up high runs her hand all the way around the legs for the first loop then proceeds into second loop/tie.

Faster way of doing it: Girl grabs her string low, at the belt loop, and flips/hooks first loop around the legs with a flick of her wrist and then proceeds into second loop/tie.

I would recommend a video or clinic like others have suggested. But the best thing you can do is get yourself a few goats. When I was in hs my neighbor and I would stake out 2 at a time and race each other, and we timed each other starting from 10ft from the stake until we threw up our hands all the time. If no one else near you ties then time yourself and set the time to beat.
