Location: Back Creek Valley!!! | Anyone have some advise for my daughter. She is a sophomore and they are pushing her to pick out her career. Well who knows what they want to do in the 10th grade. All she really knows is she wants to run barrels!! OK so living in the east coast no such luck. Whats some of your kids wanting to study, what kind of colleges have rodeo teams? She likes to stay busy, not one to set at a desk all day. Sure she would love to be on a horse all day however she will need to support that hobby. Being a vet doesn't really excite her. I think the too much schooling gets in the way. I have even thought of sending her after graduation to a working cattle ranch to get some experience. See where life takes here.
I just thought maybe you all had some ideas. Career choices, schools with rodeo teams, cattle ranches
Thanks in advance |

| I don't know a whole lot but I know of University of Findlay (I think it's called) has a really great equine program. Or there's schools like Meredith Manor (an equine college in WV where I live). I guess it just depends on what she wants to do other than running barrels! If she likes animals there's animal science programs as well as equine science/management programs at a lot of universities (Like WVU where I go). I thought I wanted to be a vet all my life and realized that it wasn't completely for me after shadowing and studying it more, and although I like animals, didn't think an animal science degree would be the best for me because I wasn't sure what else I would do with it. I picked business and will see where it takes me. It's pretty broad and I wanna be happy working, but am mainly concerned with finding a stable, decent job while I get my Masters and figure out what I wanna do. ANYWAYS, enough about me. I would just advise her to volunteer and shadow at different places, and even work some places as a helping hand or somethin so she can figure out what interests her career wise!! |

Air Force or navy would offer her great training for technical jobs, pay for college and provide her with benefits that would otherwise not be available in a private sector job. If it's something she would consider, I'm sure some of the military gals on here could give her some direction with that.
If I had it to do over again, that's the route I'd go while I decided on a career. |

| Yuck I hate how schools do that I didn't figure out what I wanted to do until my freshman year of college. |

| Journalism or Broadcast Journalism. You get to be at the rodeo.
CPA if she is good in math--I know that I support my CPA's hobby, whatever it is.
Marketing or business administration--one of the leading job areas for years. Have a friend who has her own very successful advertising agency.

| I work in the agriculture industry. Wide and varies career fields, can be a desk job or I put in a lot of windshield time too visiting customers depending on the time of year.
It's nice to have a steady paycheck to support those barrel racing dreams in the early years... |
