Can someone tell me who trained dial it ? I heard the announcer say that he was purchased as a head horse prospect and that Britney pozzi had done some barrel work on him .... Did shada train and finish him on barrels or was he already a proven barrel horse when they got him ?

It might. Start in a safe place and start with it applied very lightly (that means start with a long tie down). You don't want to have a wreck. Also use something she/he can break. No NYLON. It's dangerous! There's a reason all the best horse people only use leather, it breaks in a jam. Ask her to move without you on her. If she won't move it's too short. I've made them out of poly rope and some string with a O to tie the tie down on. Don't use wire unless it's necessary. Start as soft as you can then move up. Take it off from time to time to see if she doesn't need it anymore. Like I said it's a tool not a fix all. I had just a few horses in my time that worked in a bonnet. I was quite a fad back in the mid - late 90's in AZ in some circles.

Good luck and ask for help if you don't know how to introduce this safely in a safe place.

Ahhh - - - the view from the cheap seats! We should all be so fortunate to "not be as competitive" and still be at the NFR. She was not invited. She qualified. Go Shada! You've earned it!

I said obviously she earned her spot, and has definitely outran me at rodeos! I just meant with the field she is up against this year I don't think it will be her year at the finals.

Ive gone to a bonnet (homemade!) and I love it! Keeps their head level when going in the alley so they dont get away from you, but still allows them to get their noses out to run. I had been wanting to go without a tie down cuz my guy wants to get his nose  out, but gets so darn excited he runs off lol I leave the bonnet pretty loose, just so he knows its there. Freedom and control all in one!

shellyh1971 - 2013-12-07 9:41 AM Β I saw a clip on one of the pre shows that was after the 1st round, it was of Shada and Trevor getting in a SUV to leave. Thier conversation was so funny. She said something about her horse going to wide, and his comeback was priceless.. He said, "Thats why we ride horses, so we can have something to blame stuff on, imagine what it would be like if we had to take responsibility for our own mistakes" Β Thats not the exact quote, but it is close.

I heard that too....hilarioius! Β

The funny thing is when someone commented to Trevor about his tie down run during round one when when his horse pulled a little too much, his reply was yes, the horse pulled a little too much but I caused that. He did not blame his horse - that was pretty cool.

If only everyone in the horse world was like that. We are all so quick to blame the horse when I believe 99% of the problems we encounter are pilot error. The horse is only as good as the one in the saddle.
