Some of you guys may remember my post from a couple months ago about a family down the road from us that has 6 kids at home and you could just tell it wasn't the best environment or influence and the kids started hanging out at our place.

Well, I found out last night that one of the 18 year old twin boys is now expecting to be a father within the next 7 days. He just found out not too long ago as well. He had been staying with the girlfriend and her parents (
)   and then they broke up and he moved back home and when he found out she was pregnant they got back together but he's still staying at his parent's house.

This kid just turned 18 not too awfully long ago. He doesn't have his GED, a job, or a car. He feels stuck -- I can understand that. He doesn't have a good influence anywhere he turns. We talked to him about it at length last night about how needs to break the cycle of what he's grown up in and he needs to want better for himself and his child. That he needs to do some real soul searching and focus on where he wants to be in life.

He's the type of kid that if you take the time to tell him something, he'll listen. The sad thing is if someone had cared enough to keep tabs on him and been truly involved in his life and what he was doing and listening and paying attention, I really don't think he would have been as likely to wind up like this.

My husband is going to try to get him on where he works on a shift where they could ride together. At least that way he'd have a job and way to get there until he could buy himself a car.

Just keep this young man in your prayers that he'll find his way, and a way to support his child like he should.

Prayers for all and how kind for you and your husband to help.  You may just be the light he needs to make the best of a less than ideal situation.

God bless both of you for offering your support. And the fact that he wants to step up and be a father instead of running already says a lot for the man he WANTS to be and, like you said, CAN be, with a positive influence! Prayers!

Β Thanks guys. I feel like he could turn out better and that he wants better and I see the potential there. His twin brother, not so much unfortunately. But my heart goes out for this kid and his younger siblings.

Join the military? He sounds like a stand up kid, he would have a job and steady pay (unless the idiot in charge gets his way). I think there are few jobs  more admirable than the military, but I have a lot of family that went that route so I may be biased. Just a thought, but it is wonderful that he has someone to take an interest in his life when it seems no one else wants to.

We've talked to him about this too ---- All three of my step-kids are in the army and we coached them right up to boot camp for it.

One thing that hurts him in regards to the military is that he doesn't have his GED and it's going to take him a while to study for it and get it. I don't think they'll even let you apply without it --but not sure? Then there's ASFAB (sp?) to test for too. We've told him we'll help him however he needs help on getting his GED. And I'll still mention the military. That would be the best route for him, really.
