Saddle Pad Help Please
Veteran
Posts: 294
I have been using the biofit pad with the fleece underside. I'm would like to try to back my saddle up and use shims like Cervi does. The built up part of the biofit pad is too far forward. I have found that my horse performs better when he has a soft fleece underside. So I need a pad with the merino wool or fleece underside. What are your thoughts on using shims with the sensorflex pad, impact gel, diamond wool. Pad MUST have the soft underside. Just looking for ideas. Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge the crown c, the one Sheri uses, is the only saddle designed to sit behind the shoulders.
I don't know what your saddle is, but just make sure that the gullet is wide enough as the back gets wider and a saddle that is not wide enough pushe back can cause pressure points.
I have the shims classic equine sells and I use a csi pad, saddle rite, or 5 star depending on the horses need.
Csi you can buy with real merino wool, but just it is an extra cost

I am having the same issue with my biofit .. except mine
Is the wool felt or what ever not the soft fleece...
Why do you think your horse performs better with the
soft fleece? Just curious...
Maybe my boy would like it better...
I wish the "shoulder" padding was further back but
I have just been pulling the pad back and it works for the time
being but I would like something better soon :

I have used 5 stars on him and saddlerights. He seems very uncomfortable and will sometimes buck when running. He has NEVER bucked when I used the softer undersides. He has longer hair then most horses. He looks more like a bronc type. I'm thinking the hair rubs too much on the felt. Im not really sure.

I got a BestEver saddle pad Cadillac Series.
http://besteverpads.com/cadillac-series-p-65.html
It has a built up area in the front in a larger area then the biofit saddle pad might work. They come with the option of a fleece bottom, that's what I got. It helped a lot on the horse I got it for. I am actually thinking of getting a biofit for my husbands horse. He rides in a ranch saddle that sits behind the shoulders and I think the biofit would be better for him. Plus the Best Ever is too thick for him and his saddle. But might be something you want to look into.
