| The 10th circuit court of appeals removed the temporary ban injunction on horse slaughter today. Plants may proceed with slaughter till the court hands down a final decision. The New Mexico plant said they could possibly be open within two weeks unless the humane society wants to post a bond again, in case of a judgement for the slaughter plants. A final judgement is not likely to be handed down for months at the soonest. |

| I keep wondering why someone does not sue the United states Humane Society for using that name and not being a government entity and also misuse of monies not going to animal care but sleek offices, bonuses, high salaries and buying politicians with campaign funds ...
HSUS should all be in jail for fraud, interstate theft and IRS fraud for faking a non profit organization ... |

Location: Harrisonville, Missouri | I saw this and will be purchasing a surveillance system. The first one of those low-life's that tries to take one of my horses (and we've had problems with this in the past), will get shot. I don't call 911. Every one of mine has had Bute so are ineligible for slaughter for human consumption, but those lazy ********* don't care. A big fat broodmare is right up their alley! I am just hoping that the folks that tried to steal from me before got the message and told their friends.

So if this ban is lifted these horses are allowed to be shipped for human consumption? Or will it be legal here? Seems like a bunch of people are confused out this. |

The ban is lifted (at least temporarily). Horses can be slaughtered here and shipped to other countries for human consumption. As far as I know it's legal to eat horse meat everywhere in the united states as long as you slaughter the horse yourself.
The whole argument has been over slaughtering horses on U.S. soil! That it! Horses have just been being shipped to Mexico or Canada to be slaughtered since USDA funding had been pulled to inspect equine slaughter facilities here in the U.S. Just another example of politicians bowing to liberals, and animal activist! Hopefully common sense has finally prevailed. |

No a big fat broodmare is not right up their alley. The packers want a high dressing percentage. Any animal that is pregnant will dress out very low as the fetus is discarded with the entrails. I would not worry too much about horse theft. The only one I have ever had stolen was taken during the ban................ |
