Location: Never in one place long | Ok so I know many times on BHW when people post horses they post the price as private.... does that almost always mean that the horse is very expensive??? I guess I just assumed this but not 100% sure... is there a reason they don't just post a price so they don't get people calling who don't have the money they want?? |

| IMO:
It weeds out tire kickers It means the price could continue to rise as the horse is hauled and more potential/ability is shown As far as prices go you never know until you ask, but IMO it keeps those that are not really shopping from asking about said horse. |

Location: You never know where I will show up...... | This has been posted over and over again so I will post what I always post LOL. I have bought several that were listed "private" for much less money than I expected to pay. I have bought 2 daughters of Dash Ta Fame and one Tres Seis mare off of this site off of "private" or $0 ads (before the private option was available). As a seller I have also listed and sold several horses with "private" or $0 ads. I ride a lot of young horses. A young horse that is barely loping the pattern one month might win or place in the 1D at a jackpot or futurity a month or two later....then you get people complaining about a drastic price increase, or heaven forbid you decide the horse maybe isn't worth the original asking price, so you lower it....that must mean there is something wrong with the horse, right? Well not necessarily....I put private on my young stock when I advertise them on here because the value of them can quickly change. Sometimes it's higher, sometimes it's lower. Hope that helps.
ETA: When listing horses as "private" as a seller I fully expect to get lots of calls, emails and messages asking what the price is on that horse. I don't consider anyone inquiring on price to be a tire kicker.

That's too bad....you are probably missing out on some really good deals. I know I would have been, if I had thought that way about private ads. |

One other thing to consider is "going rate" market value of the horse that you might be looking at that has the "private" listing. If it's a direct son or daughter of a 'big name' stud like Dash Ta Fame, Frenchmans Guy, Fire Water Flit, ect. or out of a great mare such as Firewater Fiesta or Mulberry Canyon Moon, you can expect a bigger price tag even though it is listed private. But how big is the question. All 3 of the good mares from very popular stallions I've bought off of here were from $5000-10,000 less than I expected to pay for them but if I hadn't called on the ads I'd have missed out.

When I bought one of my geldings I was having panic attacks waiting to find out what the gal wanted for him since she put $0. Oh my stars what a great feeling that was to realize he was in my budget and way less than I expected! My husband didn't even crab about that one! |

| And in some states ( I think oregon maybe) you HAVE TO SELL a horse for whatever you advertise them for and to WHOMEVER has the money. Could be wrong but I remember reading that on one of the other boards. So if you say, 10,000 and your worst enemy who cant ride and blows horses up writes you a ck, you have to take it. |

Location: MT | Thanks for posting your responses, Rockinas. I have always been under the impression if the price wasn't listed, I couldn't afford them. I have also felt, especially if the ad says, "No tire kickers" or "Serious inquiries only" that contacting for the price without out a deep pocket would make me a tire kicker. :) |

Yep! No way I would let my horses go to someone that I did not feel comfortable about selling too! What a horrible law! |
