SO...its been about 7 days since I posted about my weaving/stall walking mare and I almost don't want to even talk about this for fear of jinxing it lol ! But, I made a few changes and I kid you not, as far as I can see ( I'm now obsessed and watch her all the time from my windows )...as far as I can see, I have not witnessed any weaving or stall walking! No idea what she does while I'm sleeping (probably weaves !)but her normal weave/ pace morning and afternoon behavior has completely changed and she has been resting or eating every time I look out the window :D
What I did was, I moved her hay feeder out of her little barn and put it at the other end of her corral (it's a 95' long & 65' wide corral) so she could eat right next to her gelding pal ( they cannot eat together as he is a chronic choker-he eats out of a slow feeder net, but his corral is right next to her's). Maybe she didn't like going inside her barn to eat...she's super paranoid and always looking for monsters.
I also started her on magnesium supplement, which helped her over the summer with her barrel race boogers & anxiety,( and she didn't weave over summer, only stall walked but not really bad ). I also reduced her low starch feed from approx 3 lbs a day to only 1lb a day, enough to mix in her vitamins/minerals & ulcer med. I don't know if its just a coincidence and she's just taking a break from her neurotic antics ? or if the magnesium is helping- the webpage claims a money back guarantee, says it helps weavers & cribbers. Also read that ulcer horses can sometimes have issues with soy, and her new feed is soy & beet pulp based. Could be the omeprazole is interfering w/her magnesium levels? Heard that too. Anyyywaayy I'm just pleased today that she appears relaxed and content. Tomorrow may be another story ;)

You might want to go to a hay based diet it sure has helped my stall walker gelding, and my cribbing mare, i will put it this way i dont sleep in the barn but havent heard a crib in a long time. My gelding has a calm soft eye just like he did with omeprizole and he will not leave his stall until he finishes all feed. I used beet pulp, stanley pelleted alfafa/timothy. And the alfafa/timothy hay cubes. Small cup of vitiman pellets. And 10-12 pounds of grass hay.
