WrapSnap - 2013-12-28 8:37 PM I agree with the others. Get his hocks checked. Dragging over barrels in the manner that you are is caused by two things 1
) Lack of gas pedal. You know you're both out of shape and just getting to know each other, so don't stress on it. Just focus on hustling through the turn. 2
) You can't "lift" a horse like this by the backside. The higher your hand gets, the more their nose and shoulder come in. Ride two handed in, set your hand on his neck, hustle with your seat and leg and enjoy the ride! As soon as you learn how to ride one that shapes and then rolls back, they're way fun!
Thanks Wrap! Should I go in straighter and ask for
less bend? Should the hand be lower altogether? Or out? Down? Pull to the hip? Haha. I mean he turns...needs zero help besides staying off it on the backside.

You actually need the bend in order to get his ribcage by the backside. As soon as your leg clears it, just drop your hand to his neck and let him work. He looks like he's going to do his job every time. I would try and take just a bit less pocket, but not cut him off to where you're giving him NO pocket. Biggest thing is stay sitting in the middle and keep hustling through the turn with your inside foot and pushing forward with your seat. It took me forever to figure out how to ride this sort, but I sure do love them now!
