I wanted to know if his blood puts calm in horses. I've had two horses (mostly TB) that had two crosses to him and both were super laid-back, that's why i just bought my last one because he also has two crosses to him and two crosses to beduino, but still very laid-back. anyone else notice that about hempen bred horses? http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/jl+lacis+bow http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/sari+love

i had a son of bar hemp, and he was fast, he could be a bit dirty(but whos to say if it was training or breeding)......i have a filly at home that is a g-daughter of bar hemp and she is very laid back........so many things contribute to it, who really knows, i have seen full siblings be complete polar opposites...........

My folks owned a share in Hempen so we had quite a few own sons and daughters of him.

Calm and laid back are not words I would use to describe them. I love Hempen horses. But the own sons and daughters weren't for everyone.

When the Hempen daughters were crossed on Bully Bullion, all the resulting offspring were beyond exceptional and the mares were sure producers.

Pretty much this..... but I do LOVE Hempens and they fit me...

My sorrel horse has Hempen on his papers - http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/behold+he+reigns
I had always been told that Hempen horses were tough and gritty, and since I prefer to rodeo, tough and gritty are things I look for in prospects.
Clifford is a sweetheart at home and we've even let young kids ride him, but he's got a lot of gas and I don't think I'll ever describe him as calm or laid back at a barrel race. Here's a video of us coming in from a side holding pen - if I can keep him this calm going in the gate or alley, I am pretty happy, but as you'll see, calm doesn't really describe him at a barrel race. -

I have a stallion that is Three Oh's on top and Cash legacy Hempen on the bottom. I love him he has so much heart and a awesome disposition and incredible speed. His first foals are 2 and are super easy to teach things to very eager and willing showing a lot of speed and athletic ability. I cannot wait for this years crop.

I have an old broodmare that has Hempen on her papers. She is quiet and easy to do anything to. Her babies are super smart and extremely easy to train. I usually credit their daddy with the smarts because Hempen is a little far back to bee much influence.
