So, I was supposed to do a whole string of rodeos as mentioned in my previous posts, but due to unfortunate circumstances in my family, I was unable to do them all. But, I still got to my local rodeo to do the barrel race, and while it was nowhere near as good as my mares practice runs it was still much better than I expected.

My mare has been running brilliantly lately when I practice. She has got her turns down pat, extremely tight and quick she just wraps herself around the barrel. But being her first rodeo she got overexcited while waiting for her run, and while I tried my hardest to keep her calm she was a little exhausted by the time she got in the arena. As it was her first run, she was a little unsure, and also very distracted by the crowd, and the bucking stock in the yards beside the arena, so her turns were wide and not at all her usual style. This disappointed me. This horse can turn as tight and fast as any pro and I was so excited to show her off. But Im very optimistic! I have already saved the dates for several rodeos over the next couple months and I am very confident she will get better the more we travel around!

I am going to try attaching a video, so if it works please critique it!
Here's a breakdown of it anyway:
While she didn't run quite as wuick as she usually does, as she was a little tired from the exitement of her first rodeo, I was still happy with her effort.

She ran quite wide of the first drum, after spotting horses behind the chutes and going towards them, but she got around, on the second drum she was distracted by the crowd and botched the turn, on the third, you cant really see in the video, but she half tried turning to the left halfway towards the drum (this is where she slows right down) and tried running towards the horses in the back yards. I take alot of responsibility for it. I was not as focused and on the job as I should have been, but I am still very confident we will both get vetter the more we compete.

Good for you! It sounds like you passed a big hurdle/milestone. I'm sure you pretty much expected the atmosphere to be an impediment, but it sounds like you did well, all things considered. Can't wait to see the video.

Thats a confidence boost for sure! This is only about 40% for her. She usually wraps around the barrels and runs heaps faster! She was a bit exhausted from excitement, and then got distracted causing her to go really wide. But if you all thinks it looks okay Im confident the only way to go is up!

The pro girls I was watching were running 17-18 second times and I watch this video over and over thinking once she gets used to rodeos she's going to be flying!!!
