Good morning everyone! I need some ideas on what would be the best and the cheapest thing to use at the bottom of a round pen panel to keep sand from getting pushed out and lessening the chance of a leg going in between the panels. What if anything do y'all have on yours?

We have a pipe round pen and we are more worried about how it is very unforgiving when they bump a leg against it. We are looking into rubber belting. I will ask my husband more about it, but it is not too thick and comes in strips. I think the little bit we used for rubber mats in our trailer came from construction equipment or maybe the coal mines here in WY. I know that isn't much help, but send me a pm so I remember your name and when I talk to my husnand next I will ask him.

Most round pens I see don't have anything. I don't have anything around mine either but its just dirt, not sand. I have railroad ties around the outside of my walker to keep the sand from getting pushed out but I don't think that would be good for a roundpen. Maybe the rubber belting would work? I see that on round pens on t.v. sometimes.

I've seen rail road ties used a lot.

Thanks for the replies, I will see if I can't find that rubber belting around my area. Sounds like my best bet.

We have the rubber and got it from our local quarry when they put in a new conveyor belt

We have the rubber belting, it came off a conveyor belt from somewhere, anyway it works great! We just put it up on the bottom half of the panels, as it wasn't wide enough to go all the way to the top. It keeps the sand in and I never have to worry about a horse sticking a leg through.
