After breeding my good mare in hopes of getting some good prospects......to be cheap.....I would rather give 20,000 for a 3 yr old that is bred nice and going. It is NOT a game for the weak at heart or the weekend warrior. My heart has been stomped and my bank account has been ravaged. Buying is WAY easier and the 15,000 price tag is WAY cheaper.

I completely agree LVB! I've got a couple own daughters of FG out of DTF mares that I wouldn't take less than double that for. There is so much time and money put into them in order to ge them to this point, and not to mention gamble as well.

Can I cut and paste that to my husband? Because it sure is a justification for me to buy a nice horse. LOL! I feel ya. I found I don't have the capacity for financial and emotional ruin to raise babies.

LOL Of course!! My colt is at the trainers right now racking up more bills after 8 months there in prep for OKC last December but when I brought him home on a break we discovered he has a chip in his fetlock. So....after raising what was to be a "cheaper way" of doing it.....I have about 17,000 into him. Hoping to make Fort Smith but after mailing out entries I am again broke!! I was one of those people that thought everyone was crazy to pay that much but after playing the game myself.....I say 15,000 is CHEAP!! LOL I LOVE LOVE my gelding and man he is a looker. It was nice to raise one and be there from day one but life would be easier if I would have just bought a dang horse!!

You can get burned either way..I bought a horse a few years ago..futurity horse..and she was entered in OKC.. The well know trainer (futurity rider) ran her horrible I might add...I had a full physical done on her..I paid a really expensive fee for her..
Got her home, and she pretty much broke down..I took her to my vet..and her knee was a mess with a chip in it..He told me she had been injected too many tiimes in that knee and was prob injected before I got there..oh, and she was also chipped in her ankle...

I had the well know veterinary clinic send him all xrays so he could look them over after several phone calls and they finally sent what the vet had taken..2 xrays..lol

BUYER BEWARE no matter what...yes..it might be a wonderful deal to wait and pay 17=20000 for a "futurity" horse...but then..it just could be another nightmare...I finally took both chips out of her..paid a fortune and the SOB who sold her to me wont give me the time of day when I see him.....Bastard

dont ask me who he is. im not saying..

Itsme - 2014-01-19 10:47 PM Barrel racers=hipsters. Are people buying these $15k 3 year olds? Of course they are, it doesnt matter if youre running in the 3D as long as the papers are "cool". I just wonder if people are going to start putting their horses bloodlines on their trailer for all to be in aww of? Takes a swig of PBR...

Now that was FUNNY and so true!!!!

i bought a 3 year old from a very reputable trainer cruising thru the barrels last year for 45k.... if youre good at finishing one out and they are bred well than yes people pay more than 15k all the time.
