Your thoughts on both? Pro's & Cons? Your experience's with them? I have never used Equioxx.

My vet recommended giving 2 grams bute a day, 3 days before a run to help with any inflammation he may have and see if there is any difference in his run/behavior. Someone also mentioned trying Equioxx.

Thanks!

I would look into Previcox if I were you.  Same drug as Equioxx, just in a tablet form.  Some vets aren't okay with writing a Rx for it for a horse because it's for dogs, but some will do it.  It's supposed to be easier on their stomach than bute.

I don't like the way my horse acts while on Bute, even for a couple of days. She is nervous and spooky. I would rather use previcox as she is her normal laid back self while on it.

Ditto!! It's less expensive and a maint. dose is only like 1/4 of pill (in my experience).  Cheaper in the long run than bute.

Bute causes my horse to gas colic, so I switched to THE Inflammation Relief and love it! Works fantastic and is gentle on the stomach because it is natural.

I have to agree with the Previcox.  I started this regimen last year and it worked great for me.  I use the 227gram pills so it's a 1/4 pill a day.  I started out giving it two days out, the vet said he did not feel that was sufficient to have it in his system the day we ran.  It was suggested by my vet to just give a 1/4 pill a day until I was done running for the season (it was late in the season and he was getting sore).  My last show of the season was our best lol.

I've not started spring conditioning yet so I'm not sure what route I will take when I do.  May just go back to the 1/4 pill a day while I'm running.
