I have a cow bred mare and about a year ago I ran at two rodeos one Friday one sat and it was pretty cold when I unloaded her sat at the house she had blood out of one nostril and I asked my hauling partner to look and she thought it was from a respiratory infection because it was real red. Gave her antibiotics and gentamicin. She has a couple bleeders. Anyways I have noticed her stop and cough after a run occasionally. A couple weeks ago she dropped her head and sneezed after all three runs about 3 minutes after I ran. Does this sound like a bleeder? I'm going to make a run through poles since it's longer running time and then take her to a vet about 30 min down the rd and get her scoped. Is that too long of a wait and should I work her through multiple times or just one run?

Sounds like a bleeder......and I wouldnt make any runs on her til you get her on lasix or your choice of supp......wouldnt be a bad idea to give her a round of antibiotics and after a bleed 4 or so weeks should be turned out.....M

Okay thank you! I meant a practice run so I can scope her after and find out for sure. Don't want to just put her on lasix and take it out of her. She's lazy anyways. I'm not going to run until I find out.

If she has bled in the last few days there will be some blood left but its better to scope right after the bleed
However if its an infection you dont want to run her again to try to get her to bleed as that will just agitate whats already going on - 10 days antibiotics and 4 weeks of rest and try again
make sure she is in TIP TOP shape before you try to run her again and get on lasix as needed
