Keeping the head past the second barrel

Hello! I watch a lot of barrel racing and one thing I notice is some riders keep the head bent around the second barrel a lot longer than others. Is this a rider choice or is it dependent on the horse? Is this a fix for a horse that doesn't like to finish the second? What are the pro/cons and what type of horse does this help/hurt? Free-runners? I have not had a horse that I have ever tried this with and I am wondering if I should or if it just that I have not had that type of horse yet. It seems counter-intuitive to me so I am asking to be educated. Thanks!!

I tend to do this with my younger horses, to over exaggerate them finishing the turn...
and then i do it on my finished horses out of habit and i wish i didn't... lol

It think a lot of horses tend to blow off the backside of second. Especially leaving it going to third. So people tend to keep their head a little longer.

Agreed. Some horses try to push off the of second barrel like they are at the first barrel. So when your going from second to third your having to pull them all that way just to they are in the right
position for the third barrel.
