Just wondered if anyone has tried FODMAPS and if they were able to determine which types of foods were causing their problem.

Never heard of it but would be interested in hearing about it. I have a long list of foods I can't eat. I think my list of what I can eat is shorter.

Just google "FODMAPS and IBS" and you'll get some info on it.

I didn't do that particular one, but I did do one.  I cut out wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, sugar, peanuts, seafood and corn.  It was hard to do, but I did it for three months.  THen I slowly added stuff back.  If I eat bread now, I get sinus within a half hour.  Soy will blow me up and make me gain weight overnight.  Dairy just hurts my stomach and I get real bad acid reflux.  Eggs too.  So, basically, I eat raw vegetables or cooked.  No sauces on them.  Fruit, almonds and baked or broiled/grilled meats and fish.  I used to love chocolate.  Godiva was my friend.  I had some at Christmas and it made my stomach hurt so bad that I was doubled over.  I won't touch it now.

rollingrfarm - 2014-02-04 1:32 PM Just google "FODMAPS and IBS" and you'll get some info on it.

I went on the Paleo Lifestyle and then added and deleted foods from there. I no longer eat processed foods and limit the amount of dairy I have. I can't eat acidic foods or my bladder suffers. Never realized how acidic strawberries, grapes, cantaloupes and tomatoes can be.

You all may want to google FODMAP diet because if you think you cannot eat certain foods, it may explain why and help you to understand which ones are related and should be excluded as well.

I know why I can't eat acidic foods.
I'll look into the others out of curiosity. Thanks.

The low FODMAPS diet is fo people with gastrointestinal problems incluidng IBS.  The diet limites but does not eliminate foods that contain Lactose, Fructose, Fructans, Galactans and sugar Alcohols.  These compounds in food are poorly absorbed, highly osmitic and rapidly fermented by GI bacteria leading to increased water and gas in the GI track, causing changes in GI motility.  This diet is low in fermentable oligi-, di- and monosaccharides and polyls.  The idea is that you eliminate certain foods and then after 6 weeks, slowly add one from each group to see if it is one of your triggers.  Google this topic for lots of additional information.

Here's a new article that ties celiac sensitivity to a high fructan sensitivity - folks that are eliminating gluten for their diet may actually need a low fructan diet.

A final group of potential culprits belongs to a diverse family of carbohydrates such as fructans that are notorious for being difficult to digest. A failure to absorb these compounds into the blood may draw excess water into the digestive tract and agitate its resident bacteria. Because these resilient carbohydrates occur in all kinds of food—not just grains—a gluten-free or wheat-free diet will not necessarily solve anything if these molecules truly are to blame.

I have been on the AIP (Auto Immune Protocol) Paleo Protocol for a month and a half!  No gluten, grains, dairy, nightshades(tomatoes and peppers and spices) and no sugar.  I am feeling so much better!  I recommend it for anyboody who has an autoimmune disease.   I am going to stay on it for at least another month and then try to add in some eggs and possibly a little bit of dairy occasionally.

Can you eat vinegar?  Vinegar is really good on veggies.
