Location: Alberta | Those who have had their tubes tied....are surgeries less invasive then years past (I just picture giant incisions and out for weeks)
Does the procedure make a different if you've had kids or not, in terms of risk or how it's done?
Anyone have it done simply because you knew you never wanted kids? |

| The ones I have seen are done lapriscopic, recovery time is a little shorter then the classical incision
Doctors don't like tying tubes until you have children or reach a certain age as it is difficult to reverse and not always a success. |

| I had my tubes completely taken out about 3 years ago. I didnt want them tied as I have no intention of having kids, and have seen too many 'whoops' with just getting them tied.
I have three little scars the size of a cm long that you barely notice. My recovery time was supposed to be day surgery, then back to work in about 4 days. They found something else while they were in there and I ended up having my appendix out at the same time so my recovery time was longer. But the tubes initially were not a big deal. |

Location: LaBelle, Florida | I had mine done after my only child was born because I knew I did not want any, plus I was already 37. Tiny incisions, in and out day surgery. I experienced nausea that afternoon, a reaction to the anthesia I think. After that, just had to be careful not to pick anything up to heavy for a while until healing was done. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | If your pregnant they can do the surgery right after you have the baby with no cutting on the outside and as long as you have no complications, for me I hemorraged after delivery so the procedure had to wait. I had a one inch incision in the lower abdomen and was painful for a couple months. Just had to wear loose pants. My kiddos kept getting larger with each pregnancy, my doctor thought it was in my best interest. They can do it fairly quickly in and out. |

I had mine down when my last was two days old, done from the outside. He's 14 now, maybe that's the difference. Anywho, after having a baby with no anesthesia, anything else is cake, lol |

A friend of mine had the essure done seven years ago successfully. I am going to ask about having it done when I see the ob/gyn next week. |

Location: Kids have taken over the house...check the barn! | I had the Essure procedure done too about 3 years ago. There is no surgery and it is done in the OB's office. It is wonderful. They give you a valium to keep you calm and insert springs into your tubes vaginally. The only discomfort I felt was a little pressure. It lasts maybe 30 min...Then you are done..easy.. no down time. Your body forms scar tissue around the springs which blocks your tubes. you go back later to get an xray to see if they are completely closed. But it is not reverseable. |

Location: The South | For the ladies that have had this done, was there any age restriction or argument from your doctor? I am going to be 30 this year and I told my dr at last year's annual appt that I wanted to tie my tubes. I have always known that I don't want to have children. She argued with me and said that we'll talk about it when I'm 35. She thinks that we need to have kids because we're both well-educated. Like she knows what's best for me even though she only sees me once a year. |

Location: Prosser, WA | I had it done right after they did my c-section so I didn't even notice that. Now I keep thinking it would be awfully nice to just have a hysterectomy. No more monthly visitor would be wonderful. Seems more of a pain now that there is no use for it. Plus I don't like the chances of still getting pregnant after having my tubes tied. |

Location: PA | They have this other procedure out now that you can have done so you no longer have a period, I believe my friend that had it done called it Ablation? You don't have to have a hysterectomy.
