Location: Middle Tennessee | My rodeo gelding has stopped running! His turns are great but in between barrels he isn't hustling like he used to. I've had him checked by the vet and farrier and they can't seem to find anything hindering him. So, my question is: could he be bored? Could I try switching him to the left instead of the right barrel first? Someone suggested Red Cell as a supplement to try... could this help? He is wicked fast and loves to breeze out in the fields but at an arena he just isn't hustling anymore.... |

Location: Sperry, OK | Chances are something is hurting somewhere... Horses can be sore and flex off sound, if he were mine I would probably just inject his hocks to see if he improves. They don't just quit for no reason. |

Location: Great NW | blood panel ? there is usually a reason they just do not stop running.
Have you run with a crowd and music lately - Is he just not running at Jackpots? Once some horses have run at rodeos they will only with the crowd and music. I have had two that way. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | How is his shoeing? Are his feet balanced? Is he shod large? Check the feet and work your way up. Is he getting a multi-vitamin/ mineral? As another BB mentioned do a blood panel. I know you said you farrier checked him have him check angles and make sure he is shod large. No foot no horse rule. |

| He has grown immune to whatever cues you are giving and is ignoring you. Change some things while riding outside the arena and use them on the pattern and lengthen your barrel reins to insure you are not riding on his face for balance or otherwise ... |

| The first thing I think of when a horse isn't running hard anymore - is he bleeding??? My daughters good mare wasn't firing and running then a few weeks later she visibly had blood in 1 nostril. Since we have treated her for bleeding she is now back to running hard again. |

Location: Sunny So Cal | Have the vet do a CBC and Chem Panel and then send it to Bob from THE. He can make up a supplement or atleast let you know what he finds.
Has he been competing a lot? Maybe he is burnt out and needs a break. He may realize how much he likes it if he doesn't do it for a bit. |

Location: Middle Tennessee | Thanks everyone for your replies! He is a rodeo horse and always runs better at rodeos than jackpots. I thought I might have been crazy to change my 13 yr old vetern who runs right and switch him to the left, but it worked!!!! He's firing again (atleast at home lol) We are up this weekend and we're gonna try running left at the rodeo. I'll let you know how it goes!! Oh, I also put him on Red Cell becuase his previous owner said she kept him on it and boy is he a handful!! But, I missed it. |

| My mare did this a year ago (12yrs old). Went from the TOP of the 1D to bottom 1d, maybe even hit the 2d. I had a blood panel done and many trips to the vet. Nothing came out. I had to switch feed and change her workouts. Back to the top 1D now, even set an arena record a few months ago. Completely different horse and FIRES now!
I switched to Purina Ultium & Omelene 500 (2 lbs of each daily) along with 4 o.z. of healthy coat, and a good joint supplement. Changed the workouts from lots of long trotting/loping for 10-15min everyday, to 8 minutes max every other day of a faster lope with a walking break in between the 8min. No arena work! |

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Same with me, did the bloodwork and nothing appeared out of the norm. Just switched feed to something our local feed store has that is similar to omelene and it even has Calf Mana in it. Will definitely try your workout idea, too! |
