It's getting to be that time of year again.  For me, I begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel when baseball spring training begins.  Pitchers and catchers have reported and spring training is underway.  Soon the dark, cold winter days will be replaced by the smell of fresh cut green grass and leather and the sounds of robins and the crack of the bat.
This morning I watched a Derek Jeter press conference in which he announced his intention to retire after this year.  Here is a guy who has given his all, and he's done it with class.  This will be his 20th season in the major leagues, all with the greatest team in the history of the game.  He's seen superstars come and go, and he's watched them get in trouble on and off the field.  He always quietly went about the job of winning games with 100% effort, solid fundamentals, and selfless sacrifice.  When it comes to winning and doing what's best for the team, Jeter has been the greatest baseball player in my lifetime, in my book.  Of all the superstars who have worn the Yankee pinstripes, none has amassed more hits than Derek Jeter, and nobody has more World Series championship rings.  He started out as a stud-thoroughbred type ballplayer, who always did it right.  He was a quiet captain and you never saw him shoot off his mouth or lose his cool.  He had it all, and now he's beginning is 20th and final season.  What's just as impressive is how Jeter has been a quiet philanthropist, and the way he was raised.  As he talks about his final season, you can see how this man is anxious to move into the next phase of his life, and continue his dedication to his foundation.  I'm going to miss him!

Here's his press conference.....he exudes class:

Derek Jeter is just classy. Since Louise brought up football I will venture to say Russell Wilson will (hopefully) have a legacy like Jeter. I am counting down the days till football training camp too. Go Seahawks!!

My favorite team is whoever plays the Yanks BUT given that I also bow to the fact that they have one of the classiest Sportsmen in a Professional game today. To bad he didn't seem to rub off on his 3rd baseman...
Jeter, always working on a way the Yanks could win, whether it was the 8th inning and they were up by 5, or the bottom of the 9th and they were down my 4 with 2 outs...

I'm excited for opening day.  Should be a great year.  I've noticed some superstars reported looking healthy.  Pablo Sandoval lost 40 lbs.  Prince Fielder changed his off season conditioning program and looks good.  Albert Pujols is healthy.  PLAY BALL!

A few buddies are trying to coordinate a weekend in Chicago to take in a couple Cubs games.  They are great guys who appreciate fine dining, a good cigar, and baseball.  I've never been to Wrigley.....it's high time I cross that one off my bucket list so I can focus on Fenway.  I'd have to be insane to pass up a chance to cast my eyes on those ivy-covered outfield walls.

lol TXBO-how do you know that?  I listen to Giants radio every morning and EVERY interview that Pablo has done he won't say how much he lost.  He never does when he loses weight.  I am sure he told Sabean-they are trying to talk to his agent about a long term contract right now.

Hotbear-and I don't think you and I are friends on facebook, but I have been on pitchers and catchers reporting countdown since December.  I almost lost my mind because the Giants were not publishing when pitchers and catchers officially had to report.  They FINALLY put it out in January.  I was so stoked.

Then I went on official countdown of that date, then full squad, now first sprint training game, then it will be for opening day and then home opener. Oh yeah, and also the first day that they beat the Dodgers.  :)

We got word that our season tickets were coming and your should have seen my hubby and I.  I just sat in my Giants room (it is literally all Giants orange with a black trim and has Giants memorabillia in it) relishing that baseball season was here.  And then I stared at our 2 sets of world series tickets for a while.  The tickets got here and my husband popped out of bed faster than I have ever seen him so we could open the box together.  And it was glorious.

I am headed to San Francisco for the first 6 home games of the season.  That's right, 6 games straight.  I can't even tell you how excited I am.  We have such a great section.  I can't wait to be in those seats again!!

We also are holding back my birthday weekend and my husband's birthday weekend.  And of course if they make the playoffs we will be back out for those.

Barrel racing season starts tonight and baseball is back.  And the Texas weather finally made an appearance this year.  I am HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!

Sassy, I heard him on the radio but here's another article.  I don't know what the exact amount of loss is but he looks really good.

lol-yep, what I thought.  If you read the article, Pablo tweeted that he has NOT officially said how much he has lost.  Family and whoever else in his circle will say it but he never will.  He has done that in the past.  Like I said, I am SURE he has told Sabean, Bochy, and Baer, he just won't say officially what it is.

I know he is slimmer.  You could see it when he was playing in Venezuela.  They talked A LOT about it after FanFest and his reasonings for doing it.  Most SF fans knew he was slimming down about end of November.  He had to-contract is up this year.  :)  Of course, he doesn't say that is the reason, but look at his track record.

For the record, I am a big Panda fan.  I love him at 3rd and I love his energy.  When Pablo is on fire, the whole team is on fire.  It is his biggest contribution to the team, IMO.
