Location: North Dakota | Here I am with another saddle quesiton.
Okay, I am seriously considering ordering the Lisa Lockhart Flex2 Wide barrel saddle to try it on my horse.

Here's what I want to know. Some of you have said you don't like the "freedom of swing" in the stirrup. I can understand that.
But who here LIKES that freedom of swing?
Do you ever feel like your feet get behind you in a run, or that you get thrown forward during the turn?
I know that everyone is going to have their personal preferances on saddles, but just trying to get some more insight before I dish out the moolah. Couldn't find a used one in my seat size.

| The stirrup will go anywhere your legs go. I personally like my stirrups not moving past resting position. I spoke with the manufacturer and it is my understanding that if you custom order they can tether the stirrups so they cannot go back.
I have never been thrown forward, but on certain horses I tried it on I could not get out of the saddle fast enough.
It is a very nice saddle, I like doing dry work and trail riding in the saddle, just on some of my horses I won't barrel race them in the saddle. |

| How do they tether the stirrups so your feet don't go back and throw you forward. I seem to have that problem. |

They will take the front concho off then place a strap around the stirrup leather right below the tree and hobble it to the front of the tree, then screw the concho back down.
I have also heard some people have been doing it themselves by applying the strap to the leathers under the fender and tethering it to the d ring for the breast collar |

Location: Colorful Colorado | I love this saddle...fits everything I own. I tried two Crown C, Shiloh, Caldwells, Double J and this by far was the best fitting for my horse. The only complaint would be the cheapness of the leather. I got the plain one of hers in the extra wide fit. I made sure to oil the heck out of it too. |

Would love to see a pic of the body/type of horse your riding it on. |

Ture, it definitely has "shorter" swells...not sure if that's the right term or not. It does not have a very deep seat either...I've gotten used to it and love how it rides, but mainly love how it fits my horse. I'll attach a picture tomorrow...can't figure out how to edit on my Mac :-) |

Location: Paradise , tx | I have Bob Marshall treeless saddles and you have a lot of swing in the stirrups, and I really like the movement. Of I have learned to control some of the movement just from riding in it so long But I don't know if it is exactly the same as in the Lockhart saddle

Location: North Dakota | I did end up ordering one (got it on Friday). I've never tried any of the other saddles that are being suggested, so I can't compare it to them. But I certainly can notice that "freedom of swing" in the stirrups. Can't say it really bothers me.
For me, the one thing I don't necessarily like (that will take some getting used to) is the Lockhart seat is NOT as deep as my old Circle Y saddle is. I think I could get used to it okay, but I do kinda miss that DEEP seat. I have not run a barrel pattern in it yet, so we will see. |
